Cleansing the world of autists through abortion before we even truly understand what autism is is incredibly short-sighted. The majority of autistic people are not severely disabled as to be compared to Hellen Keller, who FYI was not born disabled, rather blinded and deafened by infection.
I wasn’t talking exclusively about autistic individuals, but rather disabled individuals. Certain parts of the autistic spectrum contains individual who are disabled. My comment does not apply to all autistic individuals.
“Cleansing the world of autists” is exactly what we should do. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a disorder, and we should try and cleanse the world of it, just as we should try and cleanse the world of heart disease or cancer or schizophrenia.
let me get this straight, according to you:
not all autistic people are disabled
we should abort would-be disabled fetuses (who would not have enough social support)
we should entirely “cleanse the world” of autism (i’m assuming by aborting all would-be autistic fetuses)
…see the problem here? you’ve stumbled into a pretty obvious logical contradiction
if we’re just coming up with our ideal scenario for making sure everyone’s needs are met, i’ve got a crazy idea: what if we just made sure that everyone had adequate social support, regardless of their ability? isn’t that the whole point of “from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs”?
