«Ubuntu setzt auf ntpd-rs — Rust für präzise Zeitsynchronisierung:
Ubuntu plant, ntpd-rs als Standard für die Zeitsynchronisierung einzuführen. Die Rust-Implementierung soll chrony und weitere Tools ersetzen.»

Ich bin kein @ubuntu Fanboy aber ich mag @rust und deswegen sehe ich deren Einsatz sehr positiv.

    @kubikpixel @ubuntu @rust

    Ubuntu macht das nicht wegen Rust. Jede einzelne der Komponenten die da gerade nach und nach ersetzt werden sind GPL. Denen geht es darum, das Userland komplett auf Lizenzen zu bringen die es am Ende erlauben das Ding komplett proprietär zu machen.

    Rust ist nur das “Werbemittel” um den Leuten experimentellen Code schmackhaft zu machen.

    Das ist leider seit Jahren das Handlungsmuster von Ubuntu. (erinnert sich noch wer an Mir?)

    chrony is licensed under the GPL-2 ntpd-rs is licensed unter the terms of the Apache or the MIT License.

      My innocent self thought these “theories” only get purported by YouTube/X teenagers. I guess I was wrong.

      sudo is not GPL software, chrony didn’t even complete a year as a default choice in Ubuntu, and gpsd actually adopts a BSD license. Read the comments @ISO@lemmy.zip wrote in this thread.

        This are the CV of the person at Ubuntu carrying the reponsibilities for these changes: https://jnsgr.uk/cv/

        Mark Shuttleworth (founder of Canonical) hails from a similar background. I don’t trust the people working at Canonical an iota to uphold human rights and personal liberties.

        Add to that their push for Snap (instead of package manager integration). I’m willing to bet, that they’re moving away from APT soon-ish.

        British Army # Captain - 2013-2019 # Architected and built multiple high-end bespoke Electronic Surveillance capabilities. Created a small start-up programme with a culture of disruptive innovation. Conceived and delivered bespoke technical development and training programmes. Co-authored the ‘CEMA Framework’ for the British Army which underpins Joint Forces CEMA doctrine. Deployed tactical Electronic Warfare and strategic Signals Intelligence capabilities.

          People can distrust whomever they wish to. But hallucinating factually inconsistent and logically incoherent theories around that distrust is another matter.

          What part does switching from dual-licensed software to GPL-licensed software to MIT-licensed software play in an evil plan? Are there sky angels out there preventing evil doers from adding backdoors to binary packages of AGPL-licensed software in particular?
