Explanation: “Yankee Doodle” was a song invented by the British to make fun of the backwards and unrefined colonial Americans who thought they knew ANYTHING about CULTURE! How absolutely plebeian! Dohohohoho
We actually loved the tune, and adopted it, lyrics and all, as our own, especially through the Revolutionary War we fought against the British Empire for independence.
Its use as a nursery rhyme tune can sometimes obscure that it actually does legitimately slap. Famously, at Yorktown, effectively ending the Revolutionary War with an American victory, the Brits played “The World Turned Upside Down” as they marched out in surrender. The American bands, not to be outdone, played “Yankee Doodle”. Who’s laughing now, lobster-backs?
Yankee Doodle keep it up,
Yankee Doodle dandy,
Mind the music and the step,
And with the girls be handy!
I was in fife & drum corps in middle school (nerd alert) and playing Yankee Doodle on fife is so fuckin fun.
normally I’m very disappointed in my country but when I hear Yankee Doodle my brain goes full

The only time it’s acceptable to be an American patriot is in three circumstances:
-
Against the dirty redcoats
-
Against the dirty Dixie traitors
-
Against the dirty fucking Nazis
And in those two moments, everyone should go MURICA.
-
This was my favorite song to sing in kindergarten
