The actual section is rather barebones as it gives appropriate recognition to micro/mini and small tactical drones as the greatest and most abundant threat to the platoon element, but doesn’t really provide the element the necessary means to detect, avoid, or counter UAS systems beyond what boils down to “keep your eyes peeled and take your best potshots at it”
It gives the same standardized advice that’s given for the defense, i.e seek cover and concealment, use decoys, minimize your visibility footprint, have some lads keep watch. And like sure, there really isn’t much more you can do if your tank platoon is deployed on a mission forward of defensive lines. But you’d think there’d be discussion of standardizing anti-air/anti-UAS armaments, like integrating M-SHORAD pattern Strykers as a stop-gap measure while working on either inventing or buying SPAA vehicles to integrate into the platoon, or issuing additional MANPADS or even just fucking shotguns to the crew assigned to be air guards.
Fuck imagine watching the entirety of the Ukraine war and the rapid evolutions warfare has been going through and walking away from it thinking “we’ll be fine not doing anything both sides figured out the hard way, that’s unrealistic!” Slat-armor? Is that tableware? Equipping supporting infantry with armaments that let’s them easily clay-pidgeon shoot shitty Amazon drones with grenades strapped to them? Nah give them heavy-ass shitty new 6.8mm rifles that have even less ammo in them so they can’t even mag-dump in a vain attempt to save their asses.
Fuck me what is wrong with the army
“one-half football field in front of nose”
Americans will do anything to avoid using the Metric system.
British Military Manual: 1914
Countering Emplaced Machine guns by Regular Infantry.
Step 1: If emplaced machine gun is spotted, wave hands around and point so the rest of your regiment is aware of it.
Step 2: Run really fast in diagonal directions, try not to get hit. Don’t stop advancing if ordered, be brave, and remember: they can’t kill you all.
All of the super secret strategies we were taught in the army boiled down to either “do the most basic shit you can come up if the enemy does something” or “we’ll do this and then we’ll have 30 seconds to get to the next postal code or we die”
“We researched dozens of options and our highly specialized hand signal was determined by soldiers to be the most natural and to best reflect our overall drone resistance strategy.”
‘Really? How so?’
“Well, the terrified over-the-head frantic panic arm-waving about the fact that you’re about to be wrecked by a drone simply over rode all other options we tried”
“Plus, screaming in fear of your impending death is not a hand gesture”
Equipping supporting infantry with armaments that let’s them easily clay-pidgeon shoot shitty Amazon drones with grenades strapped to them? Nah give them heavy-ass shitty new 6.8mm rifles that have even less ammo in them so they can’t even mag-dump in a vain attempt to save their asses.
Issuing some cheap shotguns for every platoon means no SIG kickbacks for their overpriced worst of both worlds rifle. I don’t think the US military even expects to fight a real war anymore, its just grifts on grifts to strip the copper out of the walls until there’s nothing left and defense contractor shareholders can flee to their bunkers in NZ.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Or those under barrel shotguns that show up in shooter games and action movies. Those are a real thing, right?
They do exist, and can even be used detached on their own, but the short barrel makes them impractical for taking out commercial drones at a safe distance. What we’ve seen from the Russian Army is that long barreled semi auto hunting shotguns are best at the job, and in a pinch they even have 3d printed birdshot and buckshot they fire out of their AK-74s.
buckshot they fire out of their AK-74s.
wtf? that sounds sick
Yep, pellets encased in a 3d printed pod that are inserted into standard 5.45mm cartridges, here’s a pic I found
- Platoon leader/sergeant transmits UAS contact report to higher HQ.
“Reporting that we have been struck by a UAS”
“Command, blegh, over.”
Surely at the very least they could issue some canister rounds for the underbarrel 40mms. It’s something.
They’re inventing a whole new mag fed auto grenade launcher rifle just for that now that I think of it. It’s just so fucking heavy the squad designated grenadier can realistically only carry that and no rifle.
I guess it being able to shoot cannister rounds is something
can realistically only carry that and no rifle.
smh my head, army guys can’t do pushups any more? get stronger, nerds~!
So a hand held flak gun?
A combo grenade launcher and shotgun that is heavy as can be.
Wow.
And throw on that shitty rifle with a smaller capacity and weights about as a much as that shitty grenade launcher? As far as I’m concerned the Army is fucking itself straight into a hole by self-sabotaging the most basic building block of the whole military - the Infantry squad.
Now it’s like they’re trying their best to ensure every mos gets fucked over a bit
Yeah it has a tiny number of rounds!

they published this earlier this week and it already got leaked to the public? good lord
no its not classified, it was publicly distributed by the army.
specifically by USACADD
Pretty much all Army pubs are online. https://armypubs.army.mil/
