You cannot overstate how badly the media botched it re public opinion on immigration. People turned off their brains and forgot what was long obvious: Opinion on this is thermostatic.     I didn’t know what “thermostatic” meant in this context so I googled.

    This phenomenon – where public preferences shift in the opposite direction of government action – is known as thermostatic politics.

    I seriously wonder if Sargent can have any sort of normal conversations with ordinary people.

        If he doesn’t know what the trolley problem is and somebody asked him about it - I bet he’d google to learn what the polling was. I’ve mentioned it before but he has one of the worst cases of polling brain I’ve ever seen. It’s fascinating to me.

            Being on Bluesky helps me because I can follow particular ghouls and that helps me keep them straight.

            American politics is a land of contrasts: liberal ghouls, centrist ghouls, republican ghouls, libertarian ghouls, and ghouls who get angry at “labels”. And it’s like an HBO series that’s 100 hours long and has 100s of ghouls in important roles.

            I remember his name from years ago when I used to listen to cth. All I can remember about it is that they made a lot of fun of him. Maybe he was super-pro Hillary? In any case - I think he went full MAGA.
