Important: This is an X11 application and, as such, will not function correctly when Wayland is in use instead of Xorg.
Python script in AUTOKEY program
import concurrent.futures
import subprocess
import os
# Change the current working directory
os.chdir('/home/user/Documents/VideoDownloader') #change to your working directory not where autokey stores scripts (/home/user/.config/autokey/data/Start_Up_Scripts/
with concurrent.futures.ProcessPoolExecutor() as executor:
proc1 = executor.submit(subprocess.run, ['./downloader.sh'])
proc2 = executor.submit(subprocess.run, ['./onlinedownloader.sh'])
proc1.result()
proc2.result()
Example of a bash script in ( /home/user/Documents/VideoDownloader ) or where ever.
1. downloader.sh
------------------------------------------------------------
#!/bin/bash
./Open.Video.Downloader_3.2.0_amd64.AppImage # You can start up appimages
------------------------------------------------------------
2. onlinedownloader.sh
------------------------------------------------------------
#!/bin/bash
librewolf https://4get.ca/ # Open Webpages
------------------------------------------------------------
Then with the push of a button using a cheap chinese macros tied to a key combo and blam. Magic.
If anyone knows of a Wayland equivalent I will be grateful.
This feature is considered harmful. First find a compositor & app combo that agree on protocol for this feature. Then proceed to wait until the protocol gets standardized and adopted by other compositors, or wait until the end times, whichever comes first.
haha yes that’s what I expected :)
I know someone who absolutely loves AutoKey and will switch DEs to anything still using X11, just for this app. If I can save them the disruption that’d be nice.
I was a big autohotkey user on windows. I now use a bunch of bash scripts, aliases, and hot keys, and a couple of one off tools to do the same things. Embrace bash imo.
From what I played around with it a few years back, iirc AutoHotKey scripts can be converted to AutoKey. However, AHK uses its own scripting language, and AutoKey uses Python.
