Throughout Japan “The Voice of Hind Rajab” is released from 4 September. On this occasion, a couple of interviews of its director & writer Kaouther Ben Hania are published in Japanese press.

In this interview by Natsuki Yasuda (Dialogue for People), the film director shares an episode at a screening event in the past (whereabouts is unknown):

A (presumably Zionist) woman asked her once, “Why did you portray Palestinian characters in your film as having the same emotions as Westerners?”

Ben Hania couldn’t understand the question immediately. So she asked back “What do you mean?”

The woman explained, “Because it seemed to me that [the Palestinians in the film] feel just like Europeans and Americans”, which she obviously finds quite strange.
