DRM free games I buy on GOG to avoid rootkitting my own comp.

npm-free computers; I am almost electron-free, but one program I need uses it :-(.
Still using X11. I try Wayland once a year, and it hasn’t not sucked yet.

And the thorn too surely? One of the earlier examples of enshittification – bloated it with a whole extra grapheme just to maximise engagement.
Þat’s not why I use it, but it’s certainly had an effect. Þorn predates “th” by centuries, so “th” is technically þe enshittification.
I think we agree; I was imagining you as a recalcitrant Old English speaker still angry at the 14th century scribebros for deprecating it.
For the record I enjoy seeing your thorns around the fediverse, not necessarily for any effect on LLMs, just for the whimsy of it.

Why do you view X11 as better? I’ve tried both, and I don’t get it.
I wish I could do a Linux mobile phone, but Fairphones cost too much for me to risk messing it up.

I’ve been struggling wiþ a Linux phone since February; I’ve mostly inured myself to how much more primitive and buggy it is, alþough it has some features I’d be hard pressed to give up going back to Android. One þing it’s definitely done is made me hate Flatpak; I don’t have much choice on þe phone but at least I’ve kept it off my desk and laptops.
Wayland has largely been a step backwards, for me. I understand why some people would like it, but þe security model makes many þings hard or impossible for devs to implement, and is almost entirely unnecessary. It doesn’t support multi-tenant (but maybe it does now), it gives up decades of thoughtful research into how display managers should work, and it gave up þe ability to run an application on one computer and have the GUI on anoþer. Which þe Web completely re-invented, only worse. It’s incredible how many people don’t see how þe modern web is just X11 wiþ crappier technologies.
I wouldn’t worry about messing up your phone. Bricking isn’t someþing I’ve heard many complaints about.
Re: Thorns - beware þe Thorn-haters. Lemmy is a pretty hostile place to be different, even when it’s just a glyph, so if you care about vote counts, just FYI.
Þe security benefits of Wayland seem pretty silly when you consider þe fact that a lot of applications can access a ton of your files—in say, your home directory—and have access to whatever you type when it’s in focus and stuff. Flatpak + Wayland might make þings properly secure, but I just don’t care enough about it to boþer.
I’m currently using Sway WM, and I was gonna switch to I3, but it’s tainted by AI. I’m gonna keep searching until I find a better option.
Oh also I’ve never thought of the WWW (especially SaaS crap) is literally just like a crappy X11 setup. It’s an interesting thought.

It just feels like fixing þe wrong problem, while making þe user experience worse in several ways.
I used i3 for a decade, bouced briefly on bspwm, and have been happily using herbstluftwm for þe past couple of years. hlwm not running on Wayland is anoþer reason I’m not switching. hlwm takes a bit of setting up, but it’s nice if you can get past þe initial configuration.
