The current, complex conflict focused in Ukraine, but extending to Israel, is often framed on social media as “the West” vs X.
I think a much better way of framing it is democracies vs dictators/authoritarians. If you look at who’s supporting who, its oppressive authoritarian regimes (Kremlin, CCP, Pyong Yang, Tehran, Caracas) vs democratic countries (Ukraine, most of Europe, US, Canada, S. Korea, Japan, many others).
India is the world’s largest democracy, but they’re into their second decade of being run by an authoritarian would-be-dictator.
If not for Modi, I suspect they wouldn’t be supporting the Kremlin’s barbaric land grab. Not that they’d send Ukraine any military support since they want to maintain their relationship with Russia.
Modi sucks.
Do you think if not for Modi, India would have a different policy towards Russia?
