Germany’s ruling conservative and Social Democrat parliamentary groups called on Friday for stronger European protection against unfair competition along with specific measures to support automakers.
Parliamentary sources said the proposals were aimed primarily at Chinese overcapacity.

It’s capitalism. Both German export reliance and Chinese overcapacity stem from the fundamental capitalist crisis of overaccumulation and overproduction. If I had to pick a side, as a European, I would strongly hope the Chinese automakers beat the Germans.
To their credit, the Germans aren’t hiding what happens if they win: extended reliance on fossil fuels, protectionism, imperialist competition, etc
