    At the top of the chart, the ratings spread out. To me, this shows broad appeal. And, I think we’ve all learned that the more people who vote, the closer to a bell curve the ratings look, with the middle getting the most votes. Which is why so many popular movies have middling ratings.

    The higher ratings near the bottom show niche appeal, few people voting, but a more loyal audience.

    I could be wrong. I never took stats in school.

      That’s a good observation. I see that in steam ratings all the time: Games that are so massively popular that they bring in people who don’t usually play the genre will have lower ratings than niche games that only reach their niche.
