A portable backpack from Israeli company Cognyte that is being sold to American Police Departments that allows them to surveil and intercept cell phone signals pretty much anywhere.
New York’s equipment catalog lists the FalcoNet Backpack Core V2, containing six software-defined base stations and support for a broad collection of 2G through 5G cellular bands. It includes Silent Call, Heat Map, MuCom, Enhancer, spare batteries, a tablet and a mobile controller. The state contract price was $372,777.30.
The backpack allows surveillance personnel to leave the vehicle and continue tracking a phone inside environments where a van cannot go, such as:
Apartment buildings Shopping centers Hotels Airports Parking garages Convention centers Stadiums Pedestrian demonstrations
The system is portable enough to be carried covertly through dense public spaces.
Texas also purchased one backpack package for $355,500, plus a $70,000 unlicensed configuration and a $27,000 flexible antenna kit.
This has to be unconstitutional and needs to be challenged immediately because this is only going to get worse.
