    When we’re jailing people, if the environment they’re in is violent and dangerous many of them are going to adapt to that environment. When they’re released, they will still have those adaptations. Safe prisons are vital to preventing future victims.

    Prison can also be a punishment, but it’s best if that doesn’t come at the predictable, preventable cost of future crime.
