What Does It Cost to Live in China's Lowest Income City?
This video explores the cost of living in Zhuzhou, a low-income city in Hunan Province, China. This includes examining local food prices, transportation costs, and rental rates, comparing them to the capital city, Changsha.
To me, it is always more indicative of a country to look not at how its richest people live but its poorest, judging development not by the wealthiest city but by the least wealthy.
Of course many places in a country like China, that is rapidly developing, are currently in a transitional period. Populations move, industrial centers shift, and inevitably some villages and towns will end up declining or even disappearing as people move to where the economic activity is taking place.
But the reverse can also happen, and just because a city is lagging behind in development now does not mean it will always stay that way.
