1,782 The Greenlandic government and the Ministry of Defence now confirm that from today there will be an increased military presence in and around Greenland. This means both aircraft, ships and soldiers - including NATO allies in the coming time.
- The security political tensions have spread to the Arctic. The Greenlandic government and the Ministry of Defence have therefore decided to continue the Defence's increased exercise activity in Greenland in close cooperation with NATO allies.
This is how a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence and the Greenlandic government begins.
'Close cooperation'
The press release also states that Greenland and Denmark are cooperating closely on the initiatives "to ensure local involvement and insight into local conditions."
- As part of the NATO alliance, it is a core priority for the Greenlandic Government to strengthen the defense and security in and around Greenland, and that this is done in close cooperation with our NATO allies, says Greenland's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vivian Motzfeldt (Siumut), in the press release.
This is supported by Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen (V).
- Security in the Arctic is of crucial importance to the Kingdom and our Arctic allies, and it is therefore important that we, in close cooperation with allies, further strengthen our ability to operate in the region, he states.
It will be the Arctic Command that will continuously inform the citizens of Greenland and be in contact with relevant Greenlandic authorities.
The press release thus confirms information that DR learned earlier in the day.
The information indicates, among other things, that initially a so-called advance command has been sent to Greenland. The task of the advance command is, among other things, to ensure that the logistics and surroundings are ready to receive any main forces later.
