The KBA road traffic authority was cited by the t-online news portal as saying that the recall was required due to potential bolt failures that could damage the steering gearbox or, in some cases, cause a complete loss of steering.
Comparing just the numbers of recalled vehicles between individual brands is meaningless imo, it depends on how much they sold. If you sell more cars of a particular model, you might have more recalls. In addition, this is just a single recall.
I don’t say one carmaker is better or worse than the other. Such things happen often, though, everywhere.
Comparison is impossible, the years don’t match and we don’t know how much of the affected SKUs have been manufactured for each brand & model, and they’re kind of separate industries even if they share the same market
