  • but even then people who can't produce either can't be simply classified into what they were "supposed" to produce without involving karyotypes or other sex characteristics, which the paper you linked explicitly argues can't be used for sex definition:

Here I synthesize evolutionary and developmental evidence to demonstrate that sex is binary (i.e., there are only two sexes) in all anisogamous species and that males and females are defined universally by the type of gamete they have the biological function to produce—not by karyotypes, secondary sexual characteristics, or other correlates

so for someone with complete gonadal dysgenesis:

    • they produce no gametes
    • their sex is defined by... which gamete they have the "function to produce"
    • we determine this function by... looking at their chromosomes (XY = male function, XX = female function) or other correlates

    but then this is circular:

    • if sex is defined by gamete function
    • and gamete function can only be identified via determination mechanisms in non-gamete-producing cases
    • then determination mechanisms are also doing the definitional work

and I feel your lacking-an-arm comment doesn't really apply here as humans aren't solely defined by how many arms we have - the analogy would only work if:

    • sex were defined like humanity - as a cluster of traits with gametes being just one feature
    • but the paper explicitly rejects that (arguing the monothethic model is the only true one when the polythetic clearly covers more cases)

but I think the bigger question this whole biological definition/determinism sidesteps is the one that seems close to heart of the very-same intersex people linked in that Wikipedia page:

Paradigms for care are still based on socio-cultural factors including expectations of "normality" and evidence in support of surgeries remains lacking.

"Nearly every parent" in the study reported pressure for their children to undergo surgery, and many reported misinformation.

The report calls for a ban on "surgical procedures that seek to alter the gonads, genitals, or internal sex organs of children with atypical sex characteristics too young to participate in the decision when those procedures both carry a meaningful risk of harm and can be safely deferred."

when these things affect human beings we can't try to wash our hands by clinging to models that seem to give us simple answers - if we insist on monothethic definitions that don't recognize the complexity of sexual development - we end up forcing ambiguous cases into boxes and providing intellectual cover to deny people agency over their own bodies.

  • but what about ovotesticular people? if they can produce both gametes what determines their sex? based on what gamete they were "supposed" to produce? but how do you determine what they're "supposed" to produce? chromosomes? phenotypes? a combination of all of these? but then we're back at square one where gametes may be binary but sex isn't?

  • Valid, those sources do paint a pretty appalling picture of Ukraine and it's massive Neo-Nazi problem - I can argue on the specific numbers as they don't fully reflect what you said but I agree that there are real issues with Azov's integration, Bandera glorification, and the disproportionate far-right influence.

However, I'd ask you to also acknowledge that Russia has an equally serious neo-Nazi problem that fundamentally undermines the "denazification" justification for the invasion. And I don't think it's whataboutism to pointing out that the stated moral basis for the war is hypocritical. And this is clearly established by both Russian state and independent media:

1.Putin himself admitted Wagner PMC was fully state-funded:

    • RIA Novosti (Russian state news): Wagner received 86.262 billion rubles from the state budget just from May 2022-May 2023

    2.Wagner's neo-Nazi leadership:

    • Wagner founder Dmitry Utkin has documented SS tattoos (InformNapalm)
    • Wagner incorporated the openly neo-Nazi "Rusich" group (Meduza)

3."Rusich" leader Aleksey Milchakov - is an openly psychopathic Nazi:

4.Neo-Nazi Russian Imperial Movement (RIM) founder Denis Gariyev received at least 15 million rubles worth of government contracts from Russia's FSB, FSO, and Ministry of Internal Affairs

    • And it goes without saying that they are a pro russian-imperialist entity as clearly stated in their Вконтакте page: https://m.vk.com/imper_legion

    5.Putin's contradictions:

    • Even during Wagner's mutiny, while calling Prigozhin a traitor, Putin called Wagner fighters "heroes who liberated Soledar and Artyomovsk" fighting for "the unity of the Russian World" (Life.ru)
    • After Prigozhin's death, Putin praised Wagner's "significant contribution to our common cause of fighting the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine"

So my point overall: Ukraine absolutely has a far-right problem that needs addressing and the US and Europe are propping them up as they align with their neoliberal and geopolitical values. But Russia claiming to "denazify" Ukraine while:

    • Fully funding Wagner
    • Wagner being founded by a neo-Nazi with SS tattoos
    • Incorporating openly neo-Nazi "Rusich" into military operations
    • Allowing neo-Nazi Milchakov to teach Russian children
    • Giving government contracts to neo-Nazis

...makes "denazification" a cynical propaganda justification rather than a genuine moral concern.

So I think if we're serious about being anti-imperialist we have to recognize that if it's bad for neolibs to use Nazis in Ukraine for their imperial interests then it's also bad for Russia to use Nazis for their own imperialist goals.

It's possible for two imperialist forces to be bad - and you can then start comparing which is worse but at that point you're doing imperialist apologia which imo isn't a serious critique for a socialist to be doing.

  • These are a lot of assertions that you've stated as fact without any proof - can you provide independent non-government sanctioned sources for your claims?

  • How does this pass for a uni level essay? Not to belabour the point but this is a final grade assignment for a social and developmental psychology course and the best she could do is quote the bible (honestly could have given her some points for the "ezer kenegdo" insight and received less heat) but stating personal opinions as fact was a big wtf - I mean this reads like a primary school level submission.

like imagine this was like an astronomy class and the student said "believing the earth rotates around the sun is demonic as Chronicles 16:30 clearly states the world cannot be moved"

  • ah but you see these would make men's pps go hard for people with uteruses so they can pop out the new masterrace not "sex-rejecting" degenerates that only make men horny and confused since how will they live without being able to inseminate barely pubescent girls like it's the ritual for the pedophile party?

or worse still "healthy girls" that dare to reject their god appointed goal of having babies by "mutilating" their bodies (ie Irreversible Damage) will not be able to contribute to the expansion of the master race and then the "great replacement" theory will finally occur in its full effect and the white race will be no more...

  • Ah I guess I was thinking of FOSS apps only but HWG looks decent, thanks!

  • I've tried OsmAnd, CoMaps (Organic) as well as Transportr - out of those OsmAnd seems to be the all around best one - it's still not ideal as it will often not find full addresses or just postcodes and it does have good public transit coverage in my experience but also struggles often enough to make it unreliable in a pinch requiring gmaps as backup. The UX is also a bit clunky but is super feature rich.

Transportr seems to be the best for public transit but coverage is limited and isn't available where I live.

CoMaps is the best UI wise but UX can be lacking (eg it doesn't have an origin destination bar at the top so if you're trying to navigate from a place you're not at you have to click search then the address then click on "route from" then go back and search for the destination then "route to" which is a hassle.) More critically it only has subways so no bus or rail which makes it a bit useless for me.

Also https://cycle.travel/map is really good for cycling but doesn't have an app so I use OsmAnd since it has so much useful customization (tho that may seem overwhelming to some)

also a good option if you want to ski or horseback ride around..

  • It's such a shame that both CoMaps and even OsmAnd have massive issues with public transport routing - I don't blame them as it's a really complex problem - I just wish I had alternatives to gmaps ;(

  • If you ask tankies they'll just tell you your friends were bourgeoisie and deserved to be put in camps for not being socialist enough...

For nuance's sake - there are still older generation folk that are vehemently pro-russia but they usually don't espouse socialist values but more nationalistic, Russian imperial interests and general anti-progressiveness as a supposed counter to US influence.

From what I've gathered it boils down to yearning for a simpler past when food was local and better, mixed with some nostalgia for their youth, as well as a healthy dose of convenient memory loss of the surveillance state and atrocities of the regime.

  • It starts off with dick pics

Specifically, Zhou claimed that she "received 2 photos of Jeremy Renner and then a string of unwanted/unsolicited pornographic images of himself." According to Zhou, this occurred "in June 2025."

“He’s done this for years,” one Hollywood insider insisted to gossip columnist Rob Shuter. “Every new woman gets the same treatment — flirty texts, then out of nowhere, the photos start coming. He thinks it’s charming.”

    Then denial

Renner’s lawyer, Marty Singer, blasted the allegations as “false, outrageous and highly defamatory.” He told PEOPLE that Renner met Zhou once in July, when she interviewed him for the documentary at a hotel in Reno, Nev. They shared a “brief consensual encounter,” and then met again in August, Singer said, adding that the actor has not spoken to Zhou in over a month.

But not before it had turned violent

I was discussing about the doc logistics, then he drank a bottle of wine alone and got angry and angry yelling for two hours. I had to location-share to my team, my parents and Disney colleagues in case something happens to me they know where I am. I had to lock myself in a room to be safe praying he would not come into the room at night as he was really angry. I did not say a word, I was so scared for my life."

For reference, Renner's ex-wife, Sonni Pacheco, previously accused Renner of drug use and domestic violence. Specifically, she claimed that Renner threatened to kill her and there was at least one instance where he fired a gun in the presence of their daughter.

And then the ICEing on the cake...

Damn this washed up actor guy sure seems like a massive piece of shit - and since we're at a he said, a-whole-bunch-of-other-people said situation - I'll go with believing the victim and the rest of the people claiming he's a POS and not the alleged POS himself.

  • i wouldn't necessarily say its a nothingburger but it is hard to judge these things when lead contamination is inevitable

still I think it's more useful to look at average daily lead intake and compare to that baseline instead of arbitrary limits especially as you've noted there is no way to set a "safe" level of lead exposure

for adults this comes out to about 0.3μg of kg body weight - so at 70kg that's 21μg of lead which means that adding an extra 7μg per day via that huel protein increases your lead intake by a third - so it's up to you to decide if you think eating 30% more lead just for the gainz is worth it - i personally don't (especially when you can find powders that don't so this)

  • Why are we giving the light of day to a company that sent paramilitaries to kill union organizers? That has been confirmed to have murdered at least 14 union leaders in Colombia and 8 in Guatemala, with workers literally assembled at gunpoint inside Coke plants and told to quit the union or die?

A company that has been draining communities' water supplies in India, forcing wells to run dry and poisoning farmers' land, with $28 million in damages assessed (and never paid)? That sold products in India containing pesticides at 140 times EU safety limits, including banned carcinogens?

A company operating in illegal Israeli settlements on stolen Palestinian land, funding extremist pro-settlement groups, and contributing taxes to fund military operations during an actual genocide?

A company that's been named the world's worst plastic polluter for 6 consecutive years, producing over 130 billion plastic bottles annually, then quietly dropped all its reusability commitments in 2024?

So using AI slop for advertising is just the cherry on top of the shit pie that the coca cola company already is, so if you're not already boycotting the literal embodiment of capitalistic evil, let this be the last straw.

  • Rich coming from the UK/EU that had no issues selling weapons to the UAE (and indirectly the RSF) until oopsies suddenly they're doing massacres so the gov has to wag their finger and go "bad insurgents you weren't supposed to murder masses with the weapons of mass murder we sent you"

British-manufactured Militec small-arms target systems and Cummings engines for armoured personnel carriers have literally been recovered from RSF combat zones in Sudan. Not to mention BAE and Leonardo have been doing massive deals with the UAE for years - typhoon jets, helicopters, missiles, the whole deal.

But sure, now they want a ceasefire. After years of arming the UAE knowing full well where those weapons were going. So even if they were to stop right now (spoilers they're still arming the other big genocidal state two years into a genocide) there's still so much already shipped there.

And let's be real I'm sure the defense contractors' bleeding hearts will see the new genocidal campaign and are gonna stop salivating and say no to the infinite money glitch...

  • How does that work when hundreds of millions of apes want their piece of the pie, and many want far more? You can't change human nature, that's off the table.

Actually, the anthropological evidence directly contradicts this. Humans evolved as a cooperative species - we survived because we shared resources and worked together, not because we out-greeded each other. Hunter-gatherers actively discouraged hoarding. Modern behavioral economics confirms this: people reject unfair offers even when it costs them money, and babies show fairness instincts before they're even socialized.

We're not wired for pure greed. We're conditionally cooperative - which traits dominate depends heavily on incentive structures and context.

    On specifics:

Worker co-ops vs unions: Unions negotiate but don't control decisions. Co-ops give workers actual ownership and decision-making power. The incentive structure fundamentally shifts - you're not negotiating who's maximizing quarterly returns, you or distant shareholders, you're making decisions for your own workplace long-term.

Scale: Mondragon Corporation in Spain has 80,000+ worker-owners. Not 350M, but proves it works beyond small scale. You'd likely need a mix - co-ops, strong unions, public options for infrastructure, maybe some small scale traditional firms.

Regulation: Every system needs enforcement - agreed. The question is what we regulate and who has power. Currently we heavily regulate workers (what they can organize, strike over) while giving capital tremendous freedom. Why not flip that?

    Concrete steps that aren't utopian:

    • Mandatory worker board representation (Germany already does this)
    • Union sectoral bargaining instead of company-by-company
    • Tax incentives for employee ownership
    • Actually enforce antitrust laws

But at that point is this even still capitalism? Worker co-ops replace private property with shared property - workers collectively own the enterprise, but only while they work there. You can't inherit it, can't be an absentee owner collecting dividends. You can't just hoard the labour of somebody else for eternity. When you leave, your stake goes to the remaining workers. That's fundamentally different from capitalist property relations, even if markets still exist. Call it market socialism, economic democracy, or just a shared property economy - the label matters less than recognizing you've changed something foundational, not just tweaked regulations.

So yeah your union idea is solid, but history clearly shows unions gradually lose ground without structural power. The ownership question - who actually controls the enterprise - might be the key.

And personally I wouldn't call it capitalism if capitalists aren't the ones who own everything.

  • visual flare will influence how people subconsciously vote. if somebody gave a comment gold then they obviously thought it was of greater value, which will influence others to find it more valuable too, resulting in more upvotes which repeats the cycle. that's why comment awards are an excellent catalyst for mimetic desire and in turn social manipulation.

  • does PieFed having the classic "cover our monthly hosting costs" progress bar OG reddit used to have?

donating used to give you account gold (which didn't allow you to give awards) but still gave you access to extra features (like saved posts I believe)

since PieFed is open source maybe these could be tied to extra hosting capacity and not paywalling features? ie you donate X amount you get to upload Y amount more images/video to share on the instance?

I'd be weary of being able to pay to give others awards as that allows actors with more capital to sway conversations and astroturf a forum that's supposed to be democratic.
