  • What is so obviously made up about this story, the part where they worked in retail, or the part where they had illegally parked cars towed? Maybe it was the part where a third party was also upset about the illegally parked cars, much like everyone in this thread? All seems pretty vanilla to me.

  • 🤡 this is you right now

  • “asking for something” and “seeing something and deciding you like it” are two different things, but go on and type another 3 paragraphs about how I’m weaseling.

  • God, I should’ve seen you take this out and followed suit. Instead I engaged, and now unbeknownst to me I’m afraid of AI and putting words in people’s mouths, gotta love internet discourse

  • You’re acting like I’m crazy for taking issue with this, I’m just explaining my perspective. You’re free to enjoy whatever gizmos and gadgets microsoft bundles into the next windows release, just as much as I’m free to say it’s a piss-poor decision on their part to do so.

It shouldn’t be the user’s responsibility to seek out replacement programs for shit that has been baked into the OS since 1983. I genuinely haven’t seen a single person ANYWHERE EVER say “boy howdy I sure do wish notepad had more features, maybe an AI cowriter!”. If that’s something you really actually wanted before you heard about this, then I’m sorry for putting words in your mouth.

As it stands though, you’re just dying on a stupid hill for semantics.

  • I couldn’t care less that the addition in question is AI related, it’s unnecessary bloat that no one asked for! I hate bloat, that’s my thing. I didn’t like when the start menu was ruined, I didn’t like when user accounts were eschewed for microsoft accounts, and I don’t like this.

I’m completely off windows now anyways, so I don’t even have skin in the game. It just boggles my mind that anyone would defend this whacky decision. Streamlined bloat is still bloat.

Why not just clone notepad and then start adding garbage? They already announced the intention to remove word pad, just replace that with whatever this ends up being!

  • You’re free to believe that this will not bog down the program at all, and also that this isn’t just the first bad decision they’re making with notepad. I really would like to impress upon you that that is wishful thinking, and not at all the most likely outcome here.

  • Any additional functionality added to an already feature-complete program is bloat, no two ways about it. If notepad+AI was a separate program, this would be a different discussion. Even if you can hide it completely, the fact that it’s there at all will affect performance. And even if it’s just a tiny blip in relative performance, it’s still the first step on the road to enshittification.

  • Because it’s a hot button topic and all the smart people seem to echo this same sentiment.

  • I was able to install old firmware on an HP printer and circumvent the ink lockout. It’s highly dependant on when your particular printer was made, but it is an option. Just make sure you also turn off all the auto update options.

  • Ooh, that I have. Whoops!

Sorry, I’m currently on a cruise and near perpetually drunk.

  • I’m convinced that it’s not actually any better in theaters, we’re just a lot more willing to bear painfully loud audio in a setting where it’s considered normal. There’s an argument to be made that it’s similar to concerts, but for my money I’d like to not have to wear ear protection in a theater just because some director figured minor hearing hearing damage is worth an especially “epic” crescendo.

  • I’ve seen right wingers, in person, call for the absolute removal of trans folk from public spaces. When one side is doing THAT, I think it’s reasonable for the other side to get a tad combative.

Bear in mind, whacky right wingers are pictured all the fucking time open carrying large firearms. Couple that with the pervasive thought that every LGBT person is a pedophile (another VERY common right wing talking point), and suddenly it’s a little scary to be gay or trans in a red state.

This shit is so fucked. People take no accountability for the shit that their party says, no matter what side they’re on, and then get all confused when opponents have issues with the heinous shit they hear constantly.

Nazis are bad. Homophobes are bad. Motherfuckers who want to control the bodily autonomy of every woman are bad. How hard is that?

  • Are you kidding me? IME it’s the right that’s constantly pissing and moaning about being censored. That’s like Alex Jones’ biggest claim to fame.

Considering people ACTUALLY WERE banned here, if even for a short time, can you show even one example of this happening to a right wing journalist on X, with similarly no explanation? No pretending this isn’t a real issue because they were unbanned, really try here.

  • I use the “Lite” version of spotify that isn’t strictly available for download in the states. It still has real shuffle and isn’t as bogged down with bloat features. Literally the only downside is no sleep timer.

  • both groups wrong? sounds dubious to me, you’re probably just a shill for whichever side i’m not on.

  • Religions can be harmful for certain dumb people who believe them. It’s not a given, but with the interconnectivity of today these dumb people can organize and create echo chambers, and be much more harmful to both themselves and others. A stark, anti-religion stance seems harsh, but it’s likely the most effective way to avoid these pitfalls.

  • Russia is 72% Eastern Orthodox by population. The US is estimated to be ~63% split between flavors of christianity, for comparison.

  • read a book

Bible, Koran, Torah, Book of Mormon, The Vedas... you know there’s actually a lot of objectionable shit in all of these.

I wonder if you meant some other books that support your ideals, jokes on me for reading the source materials instead I suppose.
