Regardless of the outcome I just hope this doesn’t lead to more tribalism in software again. The FOSS community needs to stay strong on an international level whenever it comes to hardware integration etc.

Exactly. Maybe if you’re seeing it everywhere that’s because the issue is so pervasive it affects that much of the lives of those using it. So either do something about it or go to spaces where people don’t have problems I guess.
My oldest Reddit account was just one year shy of being able to vote (just rolled over to 17) and it stung a little to hit that delete button yesterday. Lemmy very much reminds me of the days when I joined. However, users here frequently point out not having any niche subs on Lemmy - that was exactly what we had to contend with on Reddit. Except making a sub became competitive and you had a lot of speculative sub creation etc. It was exciting because it was new, but that isn’t the case now. The attitude I see missing on Lemmy then is this desire to create communities, and instead lament they don’t exist. Be the change you want to see everyone.
No, Bernie got done dirty in the primary process each time, super delegates, getting people like Buttigieg to drop out for promises of favors - but it’s convenient there wasn’t a primary in 2024 so they could just pick someone else for you openly.
I still have no idea how Lemmy really works, and I had to sign up for this instance - I don’t know, I don’t see a platform growing on that. But maybe that’s the point. I’m trying to engage though! The Voyager app’s “import sub” feature from Reddit is brilliant.
