  • I mean, is it the fliers that make it special? That seems like a really strange distinction to get the government involved.

  • That poster must be adding on stuff like replacement parts and additional maintenance supplies throughout the year. A tune up here in OR is like $75.

  • But there are tons of these women, I don't really understand why this one stands out? Lemmy has its own collection of women self-posting nudes as, I assume, marketing for something that pays them money.

  • The fact that the question is significant enough to deserve an answer means somebody somewhere got wind of something real.

It probably doesn't mean a full cancellation of gmail but I wouldn't be surprised to hear they're trying something like Wave again.

  • My "Gmail is here to stay" press release is raising a lot of questions already answered by my press release

  • Ultimately this is futile though, because you can do that for these two specific prompts until the AI appears to "get it", but it'll still screw up a prompt like "1800s Supreme Court justice" or something because it hasn't been trained on that. Real intelligence requires agency to seek out new information to fill in its own gaps; and a framework to be aware of what the gaps are. Through exploration of its environment, a real intelligence connects things together, and is able to form new connections as needed. When we say "AI doesn't know anything" that's what we mean--understanding is having a huge range of connections and the ability to infer new ones.

  • I don't know how you'd solve the problem of making a generative AI accurately create a slate of images that both a) inclusively produces people with diverse characteristics and b) understands the context of what characteristics could feasibly be generated.

But that's because the AI doesn't know how to solve the problem.

Because the AI doesn't know anything.

Real intelligence simply doesn't work like this, and every time you point it out someone shouts "but it'll get better". It still won't understand anything unless you teach it exactly what the solution to a prompt is. It won't, for example, interpolate its knowledge of what US senators look like with the knowledge that all of them were white men for a long period of American history.

  • Replace beef with Long Pork. The French invented a device that will properly cut the pigs that are causing all this.

  • I thought that this would be a lot of he-said-they-said handwaving but no, they have the actual letter, that's a threat. The letter basically goes straight for "it would be a real shame if something were to happen to this upstanding establishment," it's almost laughably transparent.

  • How. Fucking. Pathetic. Do you have to be. To have an entire army of sycophants. And that's still not enough for your ego.

  • "If you were my husband I'd poison your tobacco.""Madam, if I were your husband, I'd smoke it."

  • Yes, but Trump isn't the only problem we're facing. And a lot of the other problems have a path through the supreme court. Let's do both.

  • Damn. I keep meaning to use one of those things that deletes all your reddit data. I doubt it'll actually do anything (reddit has no ethical framework so they won't think twice about indexing "deleted" data) but I still need to do that.

  • Oh my God yes

The success of Recettear and Moonlighter show there's a market for subversions of the genre and I'm here for it.

Just spitballing but what if the faeries' actions wear down the boss's defenses over time. Also they can loot the chosen kid's body for stuff to pass on to the next one.

The kids have psychological profiles. Most of them are dicks who have done something to deserve their fate but you can get a random roll of a kid who is a shining moral beacon, and that run gets to take advantage of his +25 Power of Friendship or whatever. (He probably still dies, but you can make a lot of progress that way.)

Oh! And what if the faeries can affect the quality of kids they're getting? Something like a PR campaign they can run in "our world" where, if their quest is whispered into the right circles, they can get a kid who's more studious or works out more, or something. They get better at this over time, which is important because towards the endgame you actually need a pure Chosen One to achieve the win state, and the only way to pull that off is good marketing.

EDIT: to add that after the first run, the game over screen lingers on a shot of the kid's corpse on the ground. After the second run, the new kid's corpse is added on top of the first kid. This continues throughout the entire save file until you win; by the end it should be a sizeable pyramid of dead chosen ones.

  • Not a single problem since I paired my first z-wave device.

  • Same, and I've already had to do this. Google started revoking things I "bought". When they announced it I immediately went into Google Play, made a list of everything I "bought", and pirated it onto my home media server.

It's mine, and it's on "physical media", which I call an SD drive in a NAS.

I don't need or want optical disks of things--they are subject to rot, more so than my NAS, and they are far far more fragile than the NAS+the backups. They take up space and collect dust. If I wanted cover art, I'd own the art and have it on my wall.

You can truly own things, and you don't have to have plastic covers on a shelf to do that.

  • They famously threw out "Don't be evil" when they formed Alphabet, a move that was, I have to admit, surprisingly honest of them.
