  • Wow. I can't believe my perspective of the world is that distorted. It makes me want to only look at it in 3D. If we've all mainly looked at Mercator projections our whole lives our sense of where everything is relative to everything else and what direction is completely off.

    People complain about the proportional sizing of Mercator but the sense of direction it gives us is completely broken. I think the average person knows it's off and people think there is an error factor to consider that a really straight like might be a little squiggly. But nope. This made me realize the Mercator gives pretty much zero accurate sense of direction if real distance is involved.

  • They are currently trying to oust the some 5 people in Congress that actually spoke up. Thomas Massie has three separate billionaires funding campaigns against him in Kentucky. If they have their way it really will be 100% of congress that does what Israel wants lockstep, up to and including sanctioning genocide.

  • Reuters operates more like an NGO than a private company. It's the British version of its American equivalent AP.

    Technically it's private, but so are all NGOs. Doesn't mean they don't do odd politically motivated things that no normal private company would do with a plain profit motive.

    Now we see here that sometimes having more than a plain profit motive is worse. It can be. It just means different. People act like having a profit motive is the worst thing possible, but it's really not. You can do worse.

    You could operate as a quasi state-sponsored news agency with connections to multiple governments and shill propaganda for them while pretending to be the very core institution of respectable journalism. But this is just a way to make the lines of "respectable journalism" equivalent to the agencies that will jump when a government says jump.
