  • I think you've got that backwards. "People are different and think different things" is the constant and the rest of what's you're drilling into is an attempt to discover the pattern in it.

So let's go Socratic: why are you asking this?

  • As a layman who had to look up half that bullshit, I think you're coming across something much simpler that cant and shouldn't be solved by one of your theorems: people are different and think different things. With beliefs, there are many truths.

  • What do you mean by "independent"?

  • That article seems really unfair. Sounds like the plane was trying an emergency landing and it didn't work. Boo to the author and editors

  • Betteridge's law says no

  • It doesn't have to be edgy, it just explains what happens. In db replication, a master holds the truth and slaves repeat it/follow orders. The US has a unique and relatively recent relationship with chattel slavery so people are more sensitive to it now. Doesn't make it right or wrong, the words mean certain things that describe what the system does.

  • Are they jokes? Or is it flirting with real fears? And either way, why would it be bad to use familiar terms?

  • Yeah, I believe the phrase is short for the weather:

    What's the weather doing?

    It is raining.

  • Context matters. Always. One person can use a word and it will be not racist, another can use the same term and it will be racist. You should ask the person what they define as "civilized". Their reasoning is your answer.

  • He drowned, didn't he?

  • The predestal/respect bit in my comment was about this post as a whole. IMO, the screenshotted person does not deserve to be paid attention to. They are not revealing anything new by any means while choosing to make the problem worse.

I don't know what anyone being in my family has to do with anything. My response is the same: if you are unhappy enough to complain out loud about something you are helping cause, either do something about it or shut the fuck up.

  • That's all good and well and I agree with you, but I also believe if you have and are continuing to feed the machine, then you don't get to be put on a pedestal or respected for recognizing how bad the machine is. This person is repeating something that is already very well known and accepted and is simultaneously adding to the alarm while causing it. I have extremely low patience for that particular brand of person. They are continuing to cause the problem they are rallying against.

If I were face to face with this person, I'd genuinely say "either quit working there or shut the fuck up."

  • "im a henchman for a bad guy....and lemme tell you...I think we might be starting to do bad stuff...not sure yet..."

    Thanks bud

  • Grammatically, it doesn't say that. An act of aggression or a nuclear blah blah is vague enough that you can read it with or without a comma

  • That's not badly written. Thats intentionally vague so one can justify a lot of different responses. That's how these things work

  • There is a difference between approaching a solution with "no, it's not good enough" and "good, now let's make it better". It's not really different if you strip feeling out of it, but in a greater context, that feeling means something.

I agree with your responses, but you're overall using the former technique. That will rub people wrong and spark conflict.

  • Rape is an actual crime in the UK, it's not a crime by name in New Jersey. They're being consistent with charges based on the jurisdiction.

  • ...is facing at least 10 years in prison if found guilty of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, and second-degree endangerment to the welfare of a child...

Those are the legal terms for different kinds of rape.

  • Why would you spread this? That's the point of these things, to get a reaction out of people and get it seen by more people.

    Stop making shit worse
