  • I've read that the reason for the useless stories prior to recipes is that the more you have to scroll the more ads you will see, or it counts differently as a page view, something like that. Basically just another example of enshittification to please the search engine.

  • I had never in my life heard of GATE until a recent Mother's Basement (anime YouTuber) Best Of review where he said it was good, and now here I am halfway through the series 10 years after it ended and it's mentioned on Lemmy. Small world, huh?

    I've really enjoyed it, even if it is partially a nationalistic power fantasy. They get so many little details right (like checking the backblast area before firing a shoulder-fired rocket launcher) that it's easy to overlook the weird cultural obsession with sexualizing 1000-year-old "children."

  • Thanks for picking up on the sarcasm, I was worried it might not be apparent enough, but it's hard to judge with this medium.

    The point I was making with the reply, of course, was that the narrative of ICE only going after hardened criminals is ludicrous on the surface of it, and even if one were to somehow believe that, the numbers simply don't bear it out.

  • In my mind the rules are clear on that: to use deadly force there must be an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm. Potential future harms can't even begin to be accounted for, so the standard has to be judged with those immediate circumstances in mind.

    Even in that situation there are means to deter a threat or determine a person's intent prior to employing any sort of lethal force. There's nothing justifiable about this.
