You know that little Internet connected puck thing with an always on microphone that transmits what it hears to an Amazon data center for voice recognition, so people can do things like control their lights, control their music, order stuff just by voice. I'm sure Amazon, the same company behind the Ring cameras, would never abuse that for spying purposes.
Wenn der Schnitt nicht ganz so genau sein muss, geht auch mkvmerge. Kann zwar nur an Schlüsselbild-Grenzen schneiden, ist dafür aber sauschnell. Es gibt glaube ich auch eine Klicki-Bunti Variante davon, aber der Name ist mir gerade entfallen.
"Verpachtet"? Meinst Du vielleicht gemietet? Pacht ist Miete plus Fruchtziehungsrecht, das gibt's eigentlich nur bei Land. Und verpachtet impliziert, dass es Dein Eigentum ist, und Du von jemand anderem Geld nimmst für eine zeitweise Überlassung des Nutzungsrechts.
It lags for me whenever I access some filesystem that takes a while to respond. That could be a faulty or old device, or it could be an NFS share with multiple large file transfers going on in the background.
And when I say it lags, I don't mean it just takes a while to show me a directory's content, I mean the entire UI freezes and kwin will grey out the window because tha application isn't responding any more.
This does not happen a lot, and if your file browsing is largely limited to a fast local storage, like a SATA SSD or even an NVMe, you may well never see this problem at all. But it does happen.
Okay, I'm generally on the side if dolphin UI-wise, but when it comes to the topic of lagginess, it has to be said that dolphin, and in fact, almost everything using the kio infrastructure, is the one shitting the bed here. You'd think a bit of multithreading will keep the UI from freezing up whenever the underlying I/O has some minor hiccup (which can absolutely happen in practice with network filesystems or USB sticks in combination with large file transfers), but apparently dolphin can't do that.
Error correction and compression are usually at odds.
Not really. If your data compresses well, you can compress it by easily 60, 70%, then add Reed-Solomon forward error correction blocks at like 20% redundancy, and you'd still be up overall.
And even then I don’t think many of them truly understand what’s going on in there.
That's just the thing about neural networks: Nobody actually understands what's going on there. We've put an abstraction layer over how we do things that we know we will never be able to pierce.

BTW, keine Ahnung, warum Giropay enden musste. Das war IMHO so lange es existiert hatte die einzige nicht in irgendeiner Form hirnkranke Methode, über's Internet Dinge zu bezahlen:
Push-Verfahren, das heißt Du gibst denen nicht eben mal Deine Kreditkarten- oder Kontonummer und lässt die abbuchen und hoffst, dass niemand das missbraucht.
Nicht ohne Weiteres stehlbar. Geklaute Kreditkartennummer waren lange Zeit ein echter Dauerbrenner, und auch IBAN Nummer für Lastschriftverfahren sind problemlos klaubar. (Ich hab vor 15 Jahren bei nem Internethoster gearbeitet, der Giropay und Lastschrift angeboten hatte. Die schiere Menge an Betrug, die mit Lastschriftverfahren reingekommen ist, die glaubt einem keiner…)
Du wirst beim Bezahlen sichtbar und überprüfbar an Deine Bank weitergeleitet, und musst dem Händler außer dem Namen Deiner Bank gar keine Kontodaten geben, schon gar nicht Username und Passwort.
Die Bank des Händlers schickt dem Händler an einen hinterlegten Endpoint sofort nach Durchführung der Zahlung eine HMAC-signierte Nachricht mit allen wichtigen Daten.
Ich glaube, bei den Kunden, die den ersten Betrag per Giropay bezahlt hatten (weil sie ihren Server oder Webspace sofort haben wollten), war am Ende kein einziger dabei, der sich als Betrüger rausgestellt hatte. Einer hatte sich glaube ich mal als minderjährig herausgestellt, aber das war auch alles.
Hot Take: Das wird hart daran hängen, ob die DB Wero unterstützt oder nicht. Und die DB hat einen nicht sooo guten Track Record, was Bezahlmethoden angeht. Gab eine Zeit, da war die einzige sinnvolle Internetbezahlmethode bei denen entweder Kreditkarte oder… Sofortüberweisung. Also der Laden, der von einem verlangte, dass man ihnen seine Logindaten für's Onlinebanking aushändigt. Ich verstehe bis heute nicht, warum dieser Laden damals nicht sofort von den Banken verboten wurde. Aber dafür nen Terz machen, wenn ich mein Smartphone, das mir gehört, so benutze, wie ich das für richtig halte.
