  • As much as I hate Microslop, I've been primarily using Bing because of the whole rewards thing they have. Although, I obviously wouldn't recommend using it and instead would recommend DuckDuckGo, Ecosia or OceanHero.

    For those who haven't heard of OceanHero, their goal is somewhat similar to Ecosia but they work towards cleaning the Ocean.

  • You know what's crazy about this AI bullshit. I've been wanting to buy a micro SD card for my tablet but the hard drive shortage has caused the price of micro SD cards to double in the past few months, so I might not be able to anytime soon. The only one that's reasonably priced is from Silicon Power, which is a brand that I've never even heard of before.

  • I was wondering why I couldn't see descriptions and comments on seemingly random videos for the past two days. Also, it's weird because I use Ublock Origin on Firefox and it's rare that these changes actually effect Ublock Origin. It seems like it may be fixed now though, but I haven't been actively checking.

  • Not enough for me, I deleted my Discord account yesterday and what they're saying isn't enough to get me to cancel the deletion. I already hate using Discord enough as is, I don't want this Nazi bullshit to ruin it even more.

  • I sometimes listen to chiptune and some other similar genres. On top of some of the more well known stuff like the original Touhou Games and retro games like Silver Surfer, something more obscure is pre-Touhou IOSYS, not all of it's chiptune but it's close enough to what was asked for. I feel like I'm forgetting some others but all I can think of is more retro games that everyone has probably already heard of.

  • For potential future reference, if I were to use Tiny 10/11 on an old computer, would I be able to easily install GPU drivers?

  • Okay thank, I wasn't sure if Microsoft or the GPU manufacturers would block Tiny10/11 users from installing their drivers since Microsoft blocks them from receiving Windows system/security updates.

  • That's not what I'm asking about. I already have a dual boot between Linux Mint and WIndows 10 and I've had it Linux Mint installed for over a year on this computer.

    What I'm asking about is whether I'd be able to use Tiny10/11 to replace Windows 10 if I were to remove. I want to run games from within Linux on the SSD but I'd need to remove Windows 10 in order to use it because I'd need to reform the SSD in order for games to run properly.

  • I know of some flash/browser games if you're okay with them and know how to safely play them but otherwise, I know I've definitely played a lot of games like this but I'm struggling to remember them.

    I haven't played the steam version yet but I know that The Last Stand: Union City is pretty good. It was released on Steam in the Legacy Collection It plays almost like a 2D version of Fallout 3/NV but in a modern setting. I've personally been looking for more games like this but I have yet to find any.

    I know it might not be what you are looking for but I know that Terraria plays like this. It starts with melee weapons but you can get ranged weapons and there is a lot of them.

    If you are okay with top-down shooters, I'm also aware of a game called Empty Clip.

    I'm also aware of some adult games but I don't know if I can post those here.

  • While this is much easier to setup than running Termux, this really doesn't seem to be working well for me. I keep having this problem where it stops excepting mouse input for seemingly no reason. I know it's not frozen because my keyboard still works but I can't use it for more than a few seconds before mouse inputs stop working. I don't have this problem with Termux, I have other problems with it but that's a different story.

  • What do you wish you'd have known before you started your hobby(s)?

  • The benefits of keeping old devices. Before we moved several years ago, I had several computers/laptops, storage devices and some other miscellaneous devices that I'd be able to use and actually benefit from if I had kept them.

    • I have games that I can't get working on either Linux or newer versions of Windows.
    • Hard drives from old computers and laptops can be relatively cheaply converted into external hard drives and, while they wont be fast and possibly not reliable if used too much, they offer decent storage for the price.
    • I often use smaller storage devices (like SD cards and MP3 players) for transferring files from one computer to another and I also like to use them as temporary storage to preserve my hard drives when I don't need fast storage.

    Another thing I wish I had known about, was just how quickly emulation would get good for older games. I've wasted so much money from buying older/retro consoles because I thought that emulation would stay as just a niche interest. Nowadays, while some games and systems are still iffy, you can emulate a wide variety of consoles and a lot of emulators even work well on some older and low end devices.

  • It's a minor pet peeve but I've disliked it when games have multiple weapons that share ammo, especially when the game doesn't explicitly tell you this. Some examples of games that do this are Doom and Half-Life. The reason I dislike this, is mainly because of how I play shooters in general. I always try to preserve my ammo by prioritizing my weakest weapons but in games that do this, I'm actually potentially wasting ammo because I'll either have less ammo for the other, usually more powerful, weapon(s), or I might not even get to use that better weapon because I had no idea it shared ammo with a weaker weapon.

  • I think that AI is fine for personal use but I also think that companies shouldn't be able to use it for profit. If the AI can do something I can't and I'm not using it for profit, I have no problem using it. I occasionally use AI to generate images for personal use and I also on rare occasions use AI Dungeon if I'm having trouble sleeping.

    A bit of a gray area that I've been letting slide is when someone, who is working by themselves, wants to make a game but they lack the artistic talent and budget to hire a good artist to make art for their game. I understand that the use of AI is technically bad in this case but I understand why they would use it and, especially if the game is free, I'm willing to give the game a try, but I will dock points and bring it up when/if I review it.

  • While I'm not sure how much of a difference the CPU and RAM will cause, my current laptop has the same GPU, so I should have a general idea of what games will work on your laptop.

    Since you mentioned RuneScape, I do actually have RuneLite (a third party client for OSRS) on this computer and it does run fine. I haven't tested it yet but I'm pretty RuneScape (RS3) should also work well. The last time I ran RuneScape on Linux was when I had a computer with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 and I was able to get an almost playable frame rate at my usual graphical settings, so I'm curious about how well it'll run on my current computer, but I currently don't have any interest in playing RuneScape at the moment.

    As for other games, if you're interested in games similar to quake, I'm not really a fan of these types of games but I know that World of Padman worked pretty well when playing offline, so I don't see why it wouldn't work well on your computer. It might seem like a weird choice at first but the levels are quite large and detailed, and the music is also pretty good as well. It started as a mod for Quake 3 before it became it's own standalone game. This can either be downloaded from their website or from Flathub.

    Another game I know of is called Urban Terror. Similar to World of Padman, it also derived from Quake 3 but it looks and plays more like Counter Strike (or at least what I think CS plays like). I personally didn't care for this one as much but some people might like it more than WoP. This can be downloaded from either their website or from Flathub.

  • Yes and I do have an account on an instance of both (although, the one that used Sharkey transferred over to Cherrypick) along with Matrix, but I don't use them very much though.

    The problem I have with Mastodon, Sharkey, Cherrypick and any other similar platform (including Twitter, Minds, and Bluesky back when I still had an account), is that I've never found them to be useful. Every time I post to any of these platforms, either no one ever seems to actually acknowledge my posts or I get responses that aren't helpful. While my posts and comments still sometimes still get ignored, I've found Lemmy (and Reddit back when I still had an account) to be much more useful and helpful.

    As for Matrix, I do still log in sometimes but I've never found any reason to actually use it.

  • Sonny 2017, the game wasn't as good as the two flash games but the OST was just as good (granted, it was just remixes of music from the flash games).

  • I'm not sure about everyone but I do know that I have thought about this before. While I have no plans on ever becoming trans, I have thought about using the name Vivian or just Vivi. It's not related to my real name but I for some reason just kind gravitated towards it.

    I think I remember first using it as my character's name in some scenarios in AI Dungeon, and I still use it when I need a name for a female character.

  • I prefer hentai/rule34 but real porn can be fine too. I know that not all porn industries are bad but I do know that there are, or at least were, some really bad ones. Also, I'm mostly into tentacle hentai and live action tentacle hentai is usually absolutely terrible.

  • I don't read books that often, so I don't know if she's necessarily the best but I'd have to say Cornelia Funke. Inkheart, while I have yet to actually finish it, is the only normal book that I remember actually liking. It's currently the only book I own a copy of that isn't a manga.

  • Do you cheat in video games?

  • If save scumming counts as cheating, then yes. But otherwise, I've only ever used cheats in single player games and I really only use cheats if either the game sucks or the cheats I used didn't effect gameplay. Some of the times I remember using cheats are:

    Using the "fixme" command in Morrowind because I got stuck somewhere.

    Using various cheats in the GTA games, after I had already beaten the main story, just so I can cause some mayhem.

    Using the "giveall" command in Doom because I installed a weapon mod that required it.

    Using the free cam that built into some emulators.

    I used to use save states in old video games that didn't have saving systems but I don't do this anymore. I just only play them until I get to a point I can't progress.

    I think I remember using a cheat code to access unused content in at least one game, but I can't remember what game that was.

    While I haven't played it yet, there is a PS2 (I think) game that requires using a cheat code to enable widescreen (or was it 720i, or maybe there was more than one game that did this, I can't actually remember now).

  • I would say that I do care about music quite a bit.

    I'm currently using more expensive earbuds from Truthear because my sister's ex boyfriend bought me a pair last year for Christmas and they sound great but I normally go with brands like Sentry that offer decent sound for the price.

    For the second question, I kind of unintentionally do both. Right now, I'm listening to music from Eternal Nocturne by Dobu Usagi (AKA dBu) and I'll be listening to some of their other albums until YouTube recommends me music from other Touhou artists like 暁Records, Sound Holic or A-One. YouTube seems to recommend music to me that's related to what I'm currently listening to, so it makes sense that I'm currently getting recommend videos from Eternal Nocturne with a few from other albums like Necromanza and Scarlet Rapsodia or the other artists I mentioned. When I'm away from home, I use my android devices to listen to music during the car ride, where I just have a bunch of random music I've downloaded over the years and I mostly use MPV to listen to them but I do have VLC on one device because MPV doesn't work properly on that device for some reason.

    For the most part, the only time I listen to music by itself is just when I'm in the riding in a car.

    Maybe sometimes. I do like to talk about some of the music I listen to. I wont go into specifics because that's not the topic for this post but for example, with dBu, their music sounds like a mix of music from Mega Man and Castlevania because it has that gothic/orchestral rock/metal with some techno sound to it. I also like 暁Records, Sound Holic and A-One because of the variety of music they make. I just really like Touhou music, if you couldn't tell.

    I do sometimes look for music but I temporarily had to stop because my external hard drive got full. I asked for a new one in my Christmas list so I hope I get it.

    I've never really thought about that last question before but I guess both.

    The update manager in Linux Mint updated libllvm15 and now Brave is completely unusable for me. Is it possible to fix this without using a system backup?
