I was just running with the 100 cubic inches to see what that would be.
More seriously, like how a metric cup is 250mL (15mL tablespoon) I agree that a metric gallon would be 4L. In fact, in my neck of the woods "a gallon of milk" is in fact 4L.
Out of curiosity I downloaded the image and cropped it to just one of the sides, and it's 509x511 so even if each pixel was a difference, that's only about 260 100 differences. There's also the possibility some of the pixels are the same just by chance, so that's more of an upper bound.
Since those guys are apparently leaving the avalanche zone, that must be what they were doing. That skier doesn't look appreciative considering how much safer those heroes have made it.
Doesn't have to the superior, but one of personal preference. You like the current cultural values and know other cultures don't necessarily share them and so fear a cultural shift.
In this case though I think you're right that there's a strong superiority aspect.
Oh I know what it's supposed to be, but can't help but see something else. I bet if the mouth was dark with a tongue like in the other panels the illusion wouldn't be so persistent. The line under the mouth is very similar to the mouth when closed so that probably doesn't help either
The last panel is messing with my brain; I can't see the white "mouth" as a mouth, but a suddenly appearing white nose or something and the character's mouth is closed while they talk.
For those curious why this happens: this building has no diagonal bracing to prevent racking, so over time it can sag and lean more and more as the wood weathers and nails loosen.
Installing the exterior boards at an angle would've helped, but usually results in more waste and labour so if you're a poor farmer with limited supplies you just install them horizontal and it'll probably last as long as you need it to anyways. Braces on the inside can be annoying to deal with if the building is used to store grain, but a viable option otherwise.
