I like computers, trains, space, radio-related everything and a bunch of other tech related stuff. User of GNU+Linux.I am also dumb and worthless. My laptop is ThinkPad L390y running Arch.I own RTL-SDRv3 and RSP1 clone.

  • My father put a large sticker of clearly AI gen animal on the water tank (likely from Temu), so yep, accurate.

  • I've been thinking about that for a few minutes now. Does it mean he considers them property which loose value by being raped?

That reply just doesn't make sense to me.

  • I misread that as "psychological damage". Poor potato.

  • I've got HP PSC 1315. When I tried it with Windows 11, it said it couldn't find drivers, and to use manufacturer's website.Le HP

  • Same, but also for TrackPoint. I have the touchpad disabled. I don't need to move my hand away from keyboard, I can endlessly scroll through pages at varying speeds just by finger pressure, and even cooler, I can scroll sideways just as easily. Oh, and I can also scroll both vertically and horizontally combined, to just easily navigate in the 2D space, pretty cool.Although I also use the touchscreen a lot. I don't want a regular laptop anymore. Unfortunately the 360 ThinkPads seem a bit rare when trying to find a used one.

Let me check what I could get if I tried to buy it new.ThinkPad L13. Intel Core Ultra 5 125U, 16GB LPDDR5, 512GB SSD, 1920x1200 IPS, WiFi 6E, plastic body. €1,398.76 with 3% student discount. That seems overpriced, at the very least for my use case.

  • Why is there a Gemini logo?

  • I don't know if other distros have that too, but Ubuntu and Mint (being Ubuntu-based) have a nice graphical driver manager. Really simplified things when I used Nvidia GPU and Realtek WiFi card. Just click to install, restart, there you go.

  • First I'll address "less addicting":Short form media (e.g. YouTube shorts and TikTok) combined with notifications from everything that is fighting for your attention at all times. Mobile apps are specifically made to be addicting, whether it is just another 30 second vertical video, game with daily sign-in bonus or Amazon app telling you that you're ugly ("You haven't purchased any beauty products yet")

Ease of use, typically you have Windows pre-installed. Not my choice of OS, but nevertheless a "just works" experience.Phone is going to do plenty of tracking.Phone is going to need an account (to use Play Store). And when speaking of web browsing, you get a physical keyboard to type comments/posts. If you want to watch movies, you get a larger screen, ditto if you just want to read articles. When you open a website, you get the website, not some limited interface prompting you to install 200th app that just ends up being a web UI anyway. When you open up multiple things, you can nicely have multiple tabs and windows. And they won't get closed just because you opened the calculator or locked the screen and now the browser got optimized to save battery (hopefully you copied whatever you were typing to clipboard).

  • mobile is way more simple to use and less addicting.

Is this sarcasm or not?I am actually asking.

  • Unfortunately, this global version of panic stick is really lacking. The US market version is really just a rebranded shotgun, which is far more effective. Even the EU version is a bit better, it has a grippy rubber handle and comes with a 2 year warranty.

  • Combine AI voice with phone number spoofing.

  • First wholesome Vaporeon meme.

  • Is that what was wrong here?

  • Am I missing something or are you conflating two different issues? Why isn’t anyone saying anything about this.

The issue was choosing a password, which not being a single word, my mom ended up forgetting. That part is security. The privacy part comes with my father arguing that setting a more complicated password is stupid because they have nothing to hide.Plus he mentioned usage of Google Photos backup system, which in this case wouldn't really be secured. But he says the photos also aren't private, because it's just photos made in public and old photos of me as a kid (which I hoped he lost with his old phone).

  • Well, actually, about that.According to DSM-5, which is basically the thing for diagnostic criteria in the US:

    Pedophilic disorder

    302.2 (F65.4)

    • C. The individual is at least age 16 years and at least 5 years older than the child or children in Criterion A.
