  • When the title says "yours" it means marketers, not You the Lemmy user. This is a blog post by a SEO marketing person for other SEO marketing people.

A more apt title for the general audience would be "It's Not Google's Fault. It's The Fault Of The SEO Spammers."

  • Human communication is pretty damn complex, so I'd say it's extremely unlikely whales are going to have the same level of language.

Perhaps they could be at the level of some earlier hominids, but to me it seems more likely they're going to be something different altogether. Human language evolved extremely quickly, so evolving it in the first place was likely a sort of an evolutionary threshold after which further development happened very rapidly. Whales on the other hand have been, from what we can tell, relatively unchanged for a long time.

Humans of course have hands and are therefore capable of making tools whales could never, and language development and technology appear to have been intertwined in human evolution. It could be that technology is what creates the evolutionary pressure necessary for developing complex language, and if so, then whales would not have had that evolutionary pressure.

  • I'm not sure what it means by suspended, but many countries scale fines based on your earnings, so a "30-day fine" probably refers to approximately 30 days worth of earnings in fines.

  • lemmy.ml mod asleep on the ban button.. what is rule4 anyway?

  • You should just post YouTube links directly as a rule. The people who don't want to use YouTube directly can stick the link into their preferred proxy themselves.

  • Well, the gospels themselves are an example of editorializing. None of the gospels are written by the disciples themselves, most if not all of them were written after all the apostles would have been dead, and it is widely agreed that two of them (Matthew and Luke) are basically fanfiction spin-offs of Mark and a second, long lost source.

To clarify, I think by the time the stories were canonized, the narrative was likely more or less established. But in the 2-3 centuries before that I expect it to have been quite varied. We have no real way of knowing either way because there are very few surviving scraps of manuscripts from that early on.

  • The New Testament was written after his death too, some parts of it earlier than others. I think it's also a pretty safe bet that there was a lot of editorializing over the centuries, since AFAIK the earliest surviving copies of anything are from the 2nd or 3rd centuries CE.

  • Almost as if dictionaries are supposed to be descriptive and not prescriptive.

  • Jesus wouldn't quote the Bible. It was written hundreds of years after his death.

  • One of these three is not like the other two.

  • Clicked on link expecting a Tom Clancy book. Was severely disappointed.

  • Yes it does, and there are at least some non-EAC servers with a whitelist system that Linux users can play on.

  • As far as I understand it, if the proposal was voted on and lost, there'd be a cooldown period for a certain time before they're allowed to resubmit the same thing. The people pushing this are using a loophole of sorts where they retract the bill when it looks like it's not going to pass and then resubmit it later with slight alterations. It's an attrition tactic; they only have to win once whereas we have to repeal it every time.

  • You'd think there would be no way to listen to music incorrectly, but somehow zoomers managed to pull it off.

  • I mean that you get arrested and go to jail.

  • It's different because their own writing is tailor made for them, whereas with external publications they have to choose from what's there.

  • If you're waiting on Wayland to reimplement the thing that made X11 a monolithic unmaintainable mess, you'll be stuck on your rotting platform from the 80s for a while.

  • Lack of an editorial department.

Established satire sites will have articles about a broader selection of topics by a broader set of writers. A sub with nothing but Lemmy users posting their homebrew satire would probably satirize little besides American politics. An echo chamber, in other words. There's only so many times you can make the same joke until it stops being funny.

  • Maybe it's just me but I feel like these Lemmy-original stories don't really belong on this sub.

Not to knock on your writing OP (some of these are pretty funny), but if everyone posted what is basically The Onion fanfiction then this sub would be nothing but, and the selection of topics being satirized would be even more narrow than it already is.
