  • Absolutely but most of its value is due to it being rare…. And shiny. The industrial uses were just a bonus we worked out later. In the early days it was valuable simply because we all told ourselves it was worth a certain amount of chickens.

  • Just adding my own experience, Nextcloud AIO runs plenty fast for just me (family is slow adopters) but its simple user interface is slowly working for them.

    I run it in an LXC with access to two cores of an i7-9700 and 4gb of ram.

    All the files are stored on an old usb2 external hdd.

    Obviously that set up won’t scale well and the hdd will be the first bottleneck but I notice no performance issues and as a shameful windows user the way it ties in like OneDrive is great.

    I can also just mount it as a network share for my Linux computer.

    I do use the calendars and other features though.

  • Many politicians have stated that they got into the game to make a difference but all the back room deals, concessions and quid pro quo needed to get into a position of power meant they had their hands tied once they were in power.

    I think a lot of the people who want to make a difference look at the quagmire that is modern politics and decide they can do more from elsewhere in the community. People who are willing to wade into that tar pit and aren’t interested in the power or the extra money that can be made on the side are few and far between.

  • It’s funny, if you look at any government that wants to legislate some nasty laws into place they will pick some targets that “everyone” agrees on.

    in this case the law is the power to declare an area a “security risk area” where police can search any home or space without a warrant under the guise of “gun crime”, this is fucked and is an insane breach of privacy and liberty.

    And their reason is the the Roma. other popular reasons across history have been the Jews, the blacks, the Latinos, the asians, the children, the Arabs, pretty much whatever boogeyman is likely to be accepted by their population.

    If anyone thinks law will be exclusively used against the Roma or even exclusively used against criminals they have rocks in their heads.

  • Yeah it certainly is. I do feel that the people who claim to have had no problems don’t send much email. It’s easy to receive email.

    I pay purely mail 10usd to host mine but it’s my work email so I can’t afford any fuck ups (more than I already make)
