  • Germany is not drawing a line. Germany continues to provide military aid to Israel as well as allow for weapons exports to Israel.

    German shells are being used to kill civillians in Gaza. This is so far the same lip-service to the humanitarian situation that the German government is giving since months, while aiding Israel in its genocide against the Palestinians.

    This probably now comes as the German government sees itself at risk to face consequences at the ICJ. Germany continues to refuse taking any tangible actions to pressure Israel into not commiting further crimes against humanity.

  • This is not true. Germany remains reluctant to call for a ceasefire. At least until past week they have demanded "humanitarian fire pauses", so a continuation of Israeli attacks as long as some food is distributed.

    Germany has immediately attacked South Africas charge at the ICJ, discredeting South Africas position minutes after the first hearing ended. So at a time where it was impossible to actually have worked through it.

    The government is asked since at least three months, if Israel isnt going to far. The German government repeatedly rejected that repeating time and time again, that Israel has the right to defend itself and that Hamas is solely responsible for the situation of the people in Gaza.

    What we see now is nothing but a continuation of that same lip service. Because also since months the government is asked, if the strategy of providing further military aid and allow for more weapons exports while just telling Israel to "do more" for the humanitarian situation, is apparently ineffective. This also kept being rejected by the government.

    Finally the German government is complicit in attacking UNRWA based on the claims Israel brought the day of the ICJ preliminary ruling. Despite there being no evidence brought forth by Israel to this day, the German government was eager to be Israels lap-dog immediately cancelling all future funding of UNRWA

  • Climate change is an ecological, social and economical issue. You cannot reduce it to either dimension.

    And you cannot solve climate change without adressing the social injustices in our societies that are excarberated by climate change, in the same way you cannot keep the economy afloat without adressing climate change.

  • It is a bit more complicated than that. Car manufacturing is one of the major industries, if not the major industry in Germany. Combustion engines require more parts and there is many supply companies, that are extremely specialized on these kind of parts. A company that is producing nothing but parts like inlet valves or pistons for combustion engines will probably go under.

    Now that is normal and that is what a market economy is supposed to do. Also companies that have looked ahead strategically have been diversifying their products and branched into new products, where they can use their existing expertise too. But many companies just used their power to lobby against change, now being unprepared for it.

    This is why conservatism, especially when it focuses on maintaining established industries and companies while blocking off new industries and companies is deadly to a countries economy in the long run. But they can't and don't want to see this, as they only think a year or two ahead, and not two decades.

  • Unfortunately people don't care about sports driving. They care about having the fastest car on the Autobahn, where the "track" is mostly straight.

    It should not come at a suprise that EVs are better suited for racing once developed. Faster acceleration and decelleration are key on raceways.

  • “Productivity” already goes some way towards addressing such problems. It is usually GDP divided by hours worked (for money). US Americans work far more hours than their European counter-parts, so that their average incomes are much higher. Whether they are actually richer, depends on the value of “free” time. “Free” in quotes because it does not include necessary work like housework or healthcare visits.

    That assumes the incomes to follow a similiar spread and productivity gains to actually benefit the workers. But that is not the case. If you look at the median income https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median_income the order is entirely different. And this is not because the people in Ireland only work 25 hours. They work 39 hours.

    Productivity by itself, even accounting for how many hours people work, is not a suitable metric to adress how well the people benefit from the economy. What we see it more and more productivity being siphoned off for ultra rich people. So cutting that part out would not harm the life quality of normal people at all. It would even benefit them, as ultra rich could not as agressively buy up houses and other investments that used to be reachable for working class people.

  • There is suburbs inside the city limits and suburbs outside the city limits. But there is also areas where on the city inside there is a field and right outside the city limits there are houses.

  • They have a long history. It is also understandable originally as the goal was to achieve a certain level of energy independence in the cold war era (on both sides of the wall). But as that they are relicts of a time long past. We have the means to achieve high energy independence through renewables and every year the mines and coal plants run longer, the damage to the environment is increasing exponentially.

  • This line of "argumentation" reminds strongly of reactionary US states and their recent bans on discussing slavery, racism and gender issues at schools.

    If you think the conservative and reactionary politicians would stand against Chinas economic power, let this be a wakeup call. If there is money to be made with subjecting people to forced labor, political opression and inhumane living conditions, they will work together with governments like in China. If you think the step further, you will see this in a time, where the UK is shunend for enabling forced labor through denying victims of forced labor access to courts and protection and where "conservatives" in Germany suggest forced labor for asylum seekers at less than 7% of the minimum wage.

    There is movements in the European "conservative" politics to enable and further exploitation and forced labor of immigrants and refugees. Talking about how the situation in China is specifically, how European companies are making nice profits with forced labor there, and how the proposed structures in Europe could bear many similiarities to China, is a danger to this "conservative" movement.

    The current EU proposal for more strict regulation of imports from forced labour are mainly furthered by the parliament and the EPP group (conservatives) has voiced many criticisms, trying to water the regulation down.

  • There is a few things that deserve clarification imo.:

    For who it wasn't clear from the pictures, this is not a natural grown forest. It is a pine tree plantage, and as such subject to getting cut. Also there exist plans from the 90s to develop the area for a factory. So the value of the forest is less in its quality as a natural habitat. This is a distinctive difference, from the protests around the Hambacher Forst for the expansion of a lignite mine, where people also built a treehouse camp. The Hambacher Forst was the closest to a natural forest you could get in Germany, before it was cut down for the coal mine.

    In ecological terms the damage from the Tesla plant primarily comes from its water usage and possible water pollution in a region under high water stress. The violet means an extreme drought. I circled the region we are talking about, where the Tesla plant stands.

    The act of sabotage temporarily cut off electricity to thousands of households in various parts of Berlin.

    The households affected werent in Berlin, but in the area in Brandenburg. Berlin is all surrounded by the state of Brandenburg, with what we call the "Speckgürtel" the "fat belt" around it. That is many towns and villages directly outside the city limits, whose inhabitants usually work in the city. The Tesla area is kind of at the outer edge of that belt.

    It also halted work at the Tesla factory for at least a week, likely costing the company hundreds of millions of euros.

    It is important to note, that this is exclusively the claim of Tesla. It is not yet verified by third parties afaik.

  • Why though? We have an idea what happened at the time and given the about 50 million deaths in total, of which about 30 million were directly caused by Germany, having another 1000 more or less bodies uncovered will not change the overall magnitude of Germanys crimes at that time.

  • I agree with you that sometime the only option to start the process to ask for asylum is to enter illegally, what make the difference is what you do once you are in: if your first action is to look for someone to help you to get the process started then I am fine and I understand that, you have no other options.

    But that is kind of the issue here. In your perception this would be the extraordinary case, but it is the normal case. This has become even more grave, as illegal pushbacks, e.g. Cops or border military violently beating up and deporting people back over the border, without ever listening to them regarding their case. The same is happening for everyone, who does the journey by sea. You can't wait on an overcrowded boat for the border police to process your asylum applications.

    And again you wrongly assume there to be a mass of refugee seekers living off petty crime. First of all there is no "mass" since the numbers have been going down significantly since 2016. Second of all, most of them get practically detained into processing centers and finally the reason why some people resort to crime is because they are kept being denied to work legally.

    If worked at a company that illegaly employed asylum seekers that had no work permit, despite living in the country for years. Their work conditions were absolutely inhumane and highly illegal. Think 12 hours shift with nothing but a 6 hour break in between for sleep. And of course the cash payments did not amount to the mandated minimum wage. Still those guys would rather do that, than sell drugs or steal. But the answer in both cases is to grant people the right to work.

  • There are ways to legally enter a country.

    Not if you require a Visa and you cannot aquire a Visa beforehand. And you can't because see the points up. Also no embassy can house a million refugees in a year, leave alone help them leave the country that wants to force them into military service (i.e. Syria)

  • Wrong, you can do it, asking for asylum to the embassy of the destination country which is present in your country

    Which doesn't work in countries that are subject to civil war or politically opressive regimes. What do you think happens if you are surveilled as a political activist and go to the embassy of that country? You will never make it to your second appointment. Or lets take Afghanistan for example. The people who used to work for Germany were largely fucked over and left to now be killed by the Taliban, as they were told to go through a bureaucratic process at an office, that was already closed for month before the Taliban finally took over again.

    Or you can go to a border and ask for it.

    Except you can't because there is noone processing it there, the offices are all in the country.

    Or go to a police station once in the country

    And voila, you entered the country "irregularly". It is simply impossible to enter a country regularly to ask for asylum there. That is the whole point of the system.

  • I'm not equating the EPP to Nazis. I say that they are willing to cooperate with Fascists, coopt fascist ideas and through this give rise to fascism. It is the same thing that the conservatives did in the 1920s and 1930s. The patterns are the same, the talking points are the same. The delusions about being able to control the fascists are the same.

    That does not mean that they themselves are fascists. But they are willing to play that game, where everybody except the fascists are losing in the long run. And they do so for short term gains, that will be meaningless, just like the conservatives in 1930s Germany quickly found out.

  • Every step in the direction of the fascists will be followed by the demand for another step. But with the first step the political window has shifted, so the next step suddenly seems discussable when before it was just considered to bei heinous, barbaric and strongly rejected. This is how fascism rises. Not in a landslide, but step by step by step. I don't expect some uneducated dissapointed young men from an underdeveloped region to get this. But the politicians know what they do and they make the same mistakes like a hundred years ago. But this time it is deliberate.

Franz Rademacher, head of the Jewish Department of the German Foreign Office, proposed the idea in June 1940, shortly before the Fall of France. The proposal called for the handing over of control of Madagascar, then a French colony, to Germany as part of the eventual peace terms.

    The idea of re-settling Polish Jews to Madagascar was investigated by the Polish government in 1937,[1][2] but the task force sent to evaluate the island's potential determined that only 5,000 to 7,000 families could be accommodated, or even as few as 500 families by some estimates.[a] As the efforts by the Nazis to encourage the emigration of the Jewish population of Germany before World War II were only partially successful, the idea of deporting Jews to Madagascar was revived by the Nazi government in 1940.

    Rademacher recommended on 3 June 1940 that Madagascar should be made available as a destination for the Jews of Europe. With Adolf Hitler's approval, Adolf Eichmann released a memorandum on 15 August 1940 calling for the resettlement of a million Jews per year for four years, with the island being governed as a police state under the SS. They assumed that many Jews would succumb to its harsh conditions should the plan be implemented.[5] The plan was not viable when proposed due to the British naval blockade. It was postponed after the Nazis lost the Battle of Britain in September 1940, and it was permanently shelved in 1942 with the commencement of the Final Solution, the policy of systematic genocide of Jews, towards which it had functioned as an important psychological step.[6]

  • Before mass slaughtering the Jews in concentration camps, the Nazis also proposed to deport all the Jews to some african country, for instance Madagascar. Now it is about "irregular asylum seekers" which are all ayslum seekers. Nobody can enter a country "regularly" to ask for asylum and get it granted. Next it will be about all "migrants" that are considered undesireable. Then it will be about citizens, who cannot prove an aryan lineage, progressive thinkers, LGTB and other marginalized groups. Finally the concentration camps will be reerected.

    That is the plan of the fascists. In Germany they have discussed their plans in a meeting between the fascist AfD, the far right CDU and people recognized as parts of illegal fascist "activist" groups.

    The EPP is preparing a cooperation with fascists in all of Europe, giving rise to a new era of fascist regimes in Europe.

  • A letter claiming the suspected arson attack in the name of a far-left militant group calling itself the “Volcano Group” surfaced on an alternative media website on Tuesday.

    “We sabotaged Tesla,” read the letter, posted on website kontrapolis.info, describing the attack as a gift marking March 8 - International Women’s Day. “Tesla consumes earth, resources, people, workers and in return spits out 6,000 SUVs, killer cars and monster trucks each week.”

    Against the Tesla expansion there is the https://t-den-hahn-abdrehen.org/ "middle class, civil" organization as well as the https://teslastoppen.noblogs.org/ "activits" organization that is running the tree houses. Given the cooperation and groups involved it is clear that there is a non violent consensus.
