  • That's basically my thought

"You used AI to get an image that infringes on copyright? Cool I've been able to do that with Google images for 20 years now"

  • They lost billions of dollars due to production being way higher than demand during 2023, it's only collusion in the sense that they all want to actually make some money on the NAND they manufacture.

  • They drastically increased production after covid, and then with inflation and the economy slowing down, demand crashed, meaning they had a fuckton of NAND and nobody to sell it to. They needed to get rid of it so they sold it all at a steep discount below the break even mark, losing billions of dollars in the process (I don't think any NAND manufacturer had a profitable 2023?). Now, they're cutting back production to profitable levels that actually meet demand, so prices will increase and return to normal.

  • To put into perspective just how unimportant Twitter is in the grand scheme of things, Mr Beast's most popular YouTube video has 40 million more views than Twitter has total monthly active users (500m or so), and 100 million views is frankly a pretty underperforming video for him

  • "OKAY, BUYING MORE PREPARATION H"

  • I basically just want a smart watch to be an extension of my phone's lockscreen:

Tell me the time, and tell me why my phone just buzzed, almost anything else is bloat that's shaving literal weeks off of the battery life

  • How far the smart watch has fallen that 5 days of battery life is now "insane", these things should last weeks

  • Why does every manufacturer fall for the IPS/OLED meme instead of using a transflective LCD (like what a calculator has)?? My Amazfit Bip gets 6 weeks on a single charge with the screen on 24/7

  • I don't think that was ever available in my country

  • I'd consider paying a few bucks a month, but not $10 or more

Get rid of shitty YouTube music and give me a tier that's no ads only

  • Wasn't that the hivemimd robot guy from Mass Effect

  • A model trained on privately owned, properly licensed, or exclusively public works wouldn’t be a problem.

This is how we end up with only corpo owned AIs being allowed to exist imo, places like stock photo sites are the only ones with large enough repositories of images to train AI that they have all the legal rights to

The way I see it, either generative AI is legal, free for everyone to run locally, and the created works are public domain, OR, everyone pays $20/mo to massive faceless corpos for the rest of their lives to have the privilege of access to it because they're the only ones who own all (or have enough money to license) the IP needed to train them

  • The old two word captchas were one word that Google knows in order to test if you're human, and one word scanned from Google's book scanning program that their algorithms failed to properly OCR, meaning for the second word you could type in whatever you wanted and you would pass the captcha

Sites were allowed to use recaptcha for free because their users were actually doing work training neural nets to read books better, if a large percentage of their users are saying every unknown scan is the n-word, I could see why Google wouldn't want them having access to it

  • Google banned 4chan from using recaptcha at the time because everyone was just typing swear words in place of the scanned word that Google couldn't OCR

  • I see you fell for the religious puritan group's propaganda hit piece too

Just know that they don't give two flying fucks about sexual violence, that's just the mask they wear while they lobby to ban porn country-wide since advocating for that directly is no longer a winning position

  • It's almost like conservatives refusing to teach their children to have a healthy relationship with sex (sexual health, importance of consent, etc) is fucking them up, and banning porn is a shitty attempted bandaid solution for their inability to properly raise their children

  • They're reducing supply because they can't make any money with this supply/demand mismatch, Micron for example didn't have a single profitable quarter and lost something like $6B total over the course of 2023

The only reason SSD prices have been this low is because we've been paying less than the cost to produce them as they try to recoup some of their losses and shed inventory

  • The enshittification will continue until profit margins improve

  • The release of Shrek is closer to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the invention of the Sony Walkman than it is to today
