  • Bluefin-dx is the more dev oriented version, and I think Bazzite has a -dx version as well. But I agree, I'm using Bluefin and love it for the containerization.

  • I've been wanting a Linux-based degoogled phone for a while now, and though it sorta exists if you happen to have the right phone model, it definitely isn't ready for the everyday consumer. But if it's something you really want to do, there are a few options out there. I've done the best I can from not using the google ecosystem at all beyond android, which is my last big hurtle.

  • Ugh, so what's the alternative?

  • Dem President: Here's my budget for the year and this is how much it would cost. Congress: We agree to pay for that. Dem President: Great, I need money to pay for things in the budget. Rep Congress: The president is irrationally spending money (on things we approved) we can't possibly do that!

  • "If the democrats got a magic lamp and three wishes, they'd negotiate it down to one wish, and then use that to wish for something they think the republicans would want."

  • Don't they cry every time Dems are in office and try to raise the debt ceiling, which is in itself an unnecessary procedure.

  • Oh! Thanks, I missed that too. 😅

  • Same, though with Bluefin (non-gaming based sister version). It took a little adjustment to how I did things, but it's been about a year, and I love the fact that it just updates in the background and my tinkering on the surface level won't break anything.

  • Exactly, this. Down voting doesn't mean disagree (well… it's not supposed to at least, but we know how that often works out). Down voting is supposed to mark content as low quality, or not useful. Unhinged and angry meets that criteria.

  • Yeah, I thought the main devs were Latvian 🤔

  • The cruelty is the point with these people.

  • Yeah, I sometimes say USAian or United Statesian, but that obviously doesn't flow. It exists in other languages, but not English.

Also, personal nitpick, I don't love when the continent of America refers to both N and S America.

"But it's one landmass!1!" Yeah, so is AfroEurasia. Continents don't actually have an agreed upon meaning, so… it's just, like, my opinion man.

  • Yay Capitalist propaganda!

  • Someone else mentioned it, but another vote for Aurora-dx (-dx for the developer version). It'll give you the KDE experience without having to worry about your underlying system, leaving you time to work on software dev in a containerized environment of your choosing. Arch is great if you want to customize and tinker with everything, but given your parameters, I think not worrying about that bit will make your life easier as you focus on what's more important to you. As long as you reboot your computer from time to time, you'll always have the latest version and can rollback easily if something goes wrong.

And as is tradition with Linux, it's not like you have to use whatever you decide forever. Distro hopping is a time-honored tradition!

  • Another who loves Street Complete. Makes my evening walks less random. I love the idea of using open street maps, but the one thing keeping me on google is the real time traffic redirecting 🫤 I do use organic maps for hikes, it's great for offline. I just wish there were some better option for traffic.

  • It's not the exact same (a 1:1 replacement) but have you looked at Logseq as an alternative to Obsidian. It is open source and serves a lot of the same needs as a wiki-style editor, but may not be exactly what you need in Obsidian

  • There are dozens of us! But yeah, same.

  • I think Bazzite has a version that doesn't start in game mode 🤔 Or use one of the sister versions if you don't game often? Password on boot happens on both of mine, and coming back from sleep should be an option.

  • Not OP, but I've got Bazzite on my Steam Deck and Bluefin on my laptop as my daily. I'm rather loving the set it and forget it nature of it while still having plenty of room to play when I need to.
