I'm just a person who does mycology for fun.

  • Mostly you want to wash your hands because mushrooms tend to be covered in dirt/leaves/duff.

  • Which Agaricus will kill you? I'm not aware of any in the PNW.

Edit: I think I remember having this conversation before, you're using "Agaricus" to mean "all gilled mushrooms" like it's the 18th century instead of what it actually means today.

  • I mean, in the main canon he joined the Klingon Navy on the front lines of the Dominion war which is basically the same thing. I don't think Worf even checked if he survived.

  • I think neither of you have any idea what life as an adult will be like for you or what kind of adults you'll end up being. That means you have no idea if the kind of adults you become will still belong together. You can stay committed to each other through this period while you find out without signing a legal document that's expensive and emotionally painful to undo.

Having a family is great, but it's not enough to define an entire person. You both would be happier knowing who you are aside from your family first.

  • Accountable in the sense that they need someone to say "my bad, I'll go away now" and pick up their contractually negotiated giant sack with a dollar sign on their way out the door.

  • It's an even older pre-internet meme, I heard it about Prince before Manson and I've heard from some older folks that they used to say the same thing about Rod Stewart.

  • Sort of, cremini and white button are at the same stage of growth, the white ones are a sort of albino strain that doesn't develop the brown scales. Having a "bald version" and a "scaly version" is actually relatively common amongst Agaricus species for some reason.

  • I found and ate some grey knights just the other day but I'd need better photos to be able to confirm/de-confirm your ID here.

  • Mushrooms were considered plants until the 70s, maybe they just had outdated textbooks in school.

  • Start with an oyster grow kit, oysters are pretty foolproof because of how aggressive they are.

Don't get golden oysters, those are too aggressive and are escaping and becoming invasive.

  • Amazing photo!

  • Looks Gloeophyllum sepiarium the "rusty gilled polypore" or "conifer mazegill".

  • You need a backup too in case of spills and so you're not at the mercy of executive dysfunction when it comes time to replace one of them.

  • It's a spelling difference between British English and American English.

  • I have no idea who these characters are but I remember this joke from The Amazing World of Gumball.

  • Ah, that one is pretty rare in the PNW. The common blushers around here are A. augusta which is said to taste like cardboard by the few who have tested it and A. porphyria which is generally not considered edible.

  • Blushers (section validae) are also toxic though their toxins are supposedly destroyed by heat, none of the species in my area are considered edible. Are you thinking of grisettes (section vaginata)?

I found a small Amanita constricta a couple weeks back that I dried but haven't gotten around to tasting yet.

  • I'm a fan of detoxified muscaria but I gotta agree that it's not worth the extra effort unless you can't find any decent edibles.

  • That's why Frank Grimes called it "a palace".
