  • Honestly, physical media formats in general have been left behind decades ago at this point.

  • That is not the problem though, Google used to just give you the results containing what you searched for, the problem started when they tried to be "smarter" than that.

  • I would probably pay for Youtube if they stopped sabotaging their own platform and making it worse (e.g. adding shorts, releasing those horrible Rewind videos, preventing playlists with "content made for kids" (e.g. every music video of a song from some Disney movie), mixing in unrelated content into the search results,...).

  • Pretty much all travel content that is not people cosplaying as rich people is also on there. And for those who prefer something more varied than the traditional sports and don't have the patience for live streams on Twitch pretty much all the edited gaming related content is on Youtube too. And of course the other documentary/educational topics besides science and engineering like mathematics, geography, history,...

  • Any politician who is pro encryption backdoor is pretty much dead to me because encryption back doors are just a completely brain dead policy that has no merit even if you completely ignore any moral or ethical concerns.

  • Wouldn't temperature be much more of a problem while charging and not while the charger is unplugged from the device it is supposed to charge?

  • I would argue that you are much more likely to break the cable physically by constant unplugging and replugging.

  • Why? Have military responses been shown to improve the situation in the past few decades? Isn't October 7 the direct result of decades of military responses by both sides? Wouldn't it make more sense to suppress that instinctive desire for revenge and say "enough is enough, this approach is clearly not working"? Especially if you are the only side in the conflict that has a chance to keep everyone on your side from acting independently since guerrilla cells don't exactly lend themselves to centralized control.

  • Protest is always valid

I wouldn't go that far. Protests can absolutely be used to subvert true opposition by funneling it via astroturfing and similar fake campaigns into ineffective channels.

  • I am referring to technological "innovations" that never made it because while they sounded good as an idea they turned out to be bad/useless in practice and also those that someone thought of in a "wouldn't it be great if we could do this" way but never really got a working implementation.

Flying cars might be a good, high profile example for the latter category. The former obviously has fewer famous examples because bad ideas that sound good at first are so abundant.

  • I don't think homeless people without a job can afford a plumber more.

  • This has also happened 100 times correctly to reject actually bad new technologies for every time it has been applied to the wrong technology that turned out to be actually useful.

  • if Trump continues to ignore legal precedent

Can you really be said to ignore something if you are totally ignorant of its existence?

  • It is almost as if connecting private and public channels together using a "do random shit" engine is not a good idea for security.

  • I believe both many Germans and many Jews have burned the concept that the Holocaust is an event committed by Germans and an event committed against Jews into their mind for some reason that isn't entirely clear to me (as a German myself). They genuinely seem unable to conceptualize the idea that any group doing those horrible things to any other group is just as bad.

  • GPL is just as bad as proprietary licenses in the sense that GPL makes the user worry about the licensing of some library they just want to use. MIT, BSD,... give the code user the freedom to avoid worrying about licensing bullshit. GPL meanwhile doesn't really solve any of the problems you claim it solves because all it does is duplicate effort and the non-GPL duplicate is used in a lot of places where a single copy of the code could be used if the GPL-using author hadn't stubbornly insisted on a disproven theory of how GPL will save us.

  • Unfortunately very believable to anyone with a familiarity with this type of accident (the type where worker/customer safety depends on management decisions) throughout history.

  • The point is that it might very well just be repeating some input data that is associated with mentions of "deleting" and "AI" without any awareness that any of that process refers to itself.
