Shitposter while I tend to two babies. Maybe when I have my life back, I'll help us get a few more niche communities back?

  • No no no, we evolved five fingers to be able to give radical high fives to all our bros and broettes. You ain't rad with a high four or high six, what even is a high six?

    See also: Shska, brah. 🤙

  • Wow, it's making national news. I live one town over and supposedly we can see the blaze from here (at least, last night). I go over that way on the regular since I like that area.

I always thought it odd El Segundo, beach city, had such a major refinery right on the coast. Kinda kept it from being as popular and well known as Santa Monica or Laguna, etc.

Fun fact, it's also a major game company hub, lots of asian game companies have their US branches there, like Bandai Namco and Square Enix (in the 999 building no less, lol).

  • So we're winning on Aerosol loading and Ozone, the two things we actually made societal efforts on reducing before our world governments went fully to shit (well, more actually, were decaying but still kind of functioning in the 80s and 90s).

I guess if there's any silver lining, humans had the power to address these things and theoretically could again if, well... y'know. Sigh.

  • Yes. Yes they are wrong, just like it was wrong to introduce them to Alexa at age 4 or gacha tablet games at age 4. This keeps coming up.

It doesn't stop parents from using them, unfortunately, as they generally lack the support circles that humans naturally should have (e.g. "it takes a village"). Being the single caregiver to a child or children is itself an unnatural condition we're not evolved to cope with and an AI decoy is going to look mighty attractive when there's no reinforcements to give you reprieve.

  • Agree that's rude to the child and teaches a bad lesson. Dishonesty in general is just bad parenting.

But, I do want you say, totally normal up leave (some) kids alone for two hours. Their behavior is pretty predictable and you may have to clean up a mess but it's generally fine (ideally in earshot). Just don't leave any major hazards lying around, like Daddy's bleach IV.

  • My guess is still internal polling suggests this is the most popular message with centrists and independent voters, or something to that effect. But I agree with you, it's nuts that they still don't get that messaging fails overall.

  • Oh shit that's a great idea for any school to have-- and take it from me, I literally studied education in grad school. Healthy food availability is 100% a good thing for academics and from a discipline standpoint (hungry -> grumpy). Public schools in many states just barely getting free breakfast though, so at least there's progress.

What next, private schools with nap rooms for sleepy teenagers?

  • Thank you for asking this, my students keep submitting huge movie files for an assignment. Didn't know handbrake existed; leave it to FOSS Lemmy to know.

  • Lol, maybe the perception that Democrats can't do anything is kind of working in their favor when they actually are doing something.

  • Good question. This is a case of me reading a headline to a paywall so I don't know.

Double checking, seems like they don't but they do get back pay when it comes back just like everyone else. Would not be surprised if they're more full of people willing to work for free than other sectors, though, as racist hate is a strong motivator.

  • There's a new law coming that will start the citations in CA, at least according to local news. Not sure about the dates, but they are addressing it supposedly.

  • I mean, ALL the propaganda is being used against Democrats so no, probably not. Interestingly enough, though, confirmation bias might just keep people as entrenched on this issue as always so we probably won't even see a change in the blame game regardless of what happens.

  • Most fucked part to me is it doesn't even stop them; ICE is considered essential and therefore it gets to keep operating during a shutdown.

  • Too bad PS4 emulation isn't quite there yet. You can, however, pirate the fuck out of the earlier games, DLC and all. Truly a better way to play, cause that DLC was hella expensive.

  • I got my daughter novelty Pokemon toilet paper to encourage potty training, but we ended up using as a family it and I can't help feeling bad smearing shit across Mimikyu's face. Lol

  • I can tell it's a Democrat strategy consultant making that framing decision and it's just so... stupid. Yes, we're ok with a shutdown, just as we were in March when Schumer et al decided to cave in out of fear for this exact situation, and now they're getting a lose lose scenario because they can't just say "governments on hold until the fascist stop fascisting" to at least use this shutdown to galvanize the left.

    We're so cooked, ugh.

  • Truly

    Jump
  • Fun fact, LA has independent Cambodian-run donut places because the so called Donut King lost his fortune to gambling addiction and had to relinquish his ownership to the families to pay debts.

  • I'd love to make that my official thumbprint when traveling and tell people I'm part machine.

  • Not only does that sound like a better date to me, but I also make it pretty clear upfront we split the cost of the date. Like, I'm pretty good at winning over friends and they end up getting my back during a misunderstanding (speaking from experience lol).
