  • That is a good question.

The world of late stage capitalism. When "scammer" starts to become a common profession.. perhaps instead of asking why everyone is becoming a scammer, ask what type of system rewards and necessistates it, and why?

There are hints in this discussion to what is wrong with the world we inhabit that leads people down this path, and that is the picture I want to draw for you.

In short, people are extremely desperate. Some might think this is just how things are, but I happen to be one of the people who thinks it is by design. The richest want to keep the workers hungry, afraid, lacking security, and the house (in which they have financial stake in) can rake in the gains. The intentional applied divisiveness of capitalism.

In that context, I wanted to point out the privileged life that you likely live in order to not realize the desperation that drives someone to capitalize on every financial opportunity available, even the crazy ones. My statement isn't in favor of making revenue on X, Y, or Z platform, my statement is in critique over your critique of how others earn a living, as well as your disregard for their situation. I was urging you to walk a mental mile in someone else's shoes.

Also I apologize for mocking you, it's not personal but I couldn't resist taking the piss out of your comment.

  • I would love it if the government banned Reddit.

Lemmy I could live without. If any users are making their livelihoods on Lemmy or Reddit, they should find something more productive to do.

    by Stovetop@lemmy.world

I nominate this for the least aware comment on lemmy. We truly have a gem here. "If someone is making their living in a way I don't understand, they should get a real job. After all, it doesn't affect me, so it must be fine."

Truly well-spoken, just look at all of the many high-paying jobs available to people of all skill levels, I mean, it's not enough that an entire generation needs to hustle and convert every waking moment into opportunities to generate capital in order to barely survive.. but also please do it in a way that Stovetop understands and supports. Otherwise, it's not "productive", whatever high-minded values that meaningless phrase is supposed to represent. Clueless.

Null empathy, null emotional intelligence, null consideration. Truly a masterpiece.

Stovetop please stay the way you are, we want to study you.

  • And the weapon is ideas? If a society has to shield itself from ideas to prevent revolt, then perhaps that society has bigger problems. Patching the hole as a united bipartisan front, when the ONLY things that receives united bipartisan support is corporate interests, kinda gives their hand away. They're doing this as a desperation move to prevent societal erosion and more importantly, loss of power in media. I think it's too late.

Seems like an upheaval, electorally or otherwise, is at hand and this is a desperation move. I don't expect the patching to prevent the rain, but who knows.

My interpretation, open to being wrong.

  • They outlawed Fox News?

Don't pretend this is about disinformation.

Fox News is disinformation peddler numero uno.

This is about the seizure of media outlets that don't parrot pro-capitalist propaganda.

But it's too late, the majority of each generation millennial and later is anti-capitalist. The critique media will simply change form.

  • I can't tell if you're right because you are not telling me what I should think, what if I have a thought? Will it hurt? I prefer when the people on TV tell me who to be afraid of, what is this new type of thinking? It's scary. /s

  • duckduckgo.com

Good alternative search engine, have to use a bit of traditional search engineering sometimes, but to me that's a good thing, feature not a bug.

It can't find everything, think of it as an extra tool in the toolbox. Having selection between search engines is a good thing. Don't want just one monolithic source of information.

  • So, genderless bathrooms? Seems to be the solution for most of this. One of my first thoughts when all this bathroom stuff came up was, "Hm, I suppose I never considered how gendered the removal of bodily waste products is. Seems antiquated now that I give it some thought."

At least your solution is gender neutral, on that I agree. And you have the added benefit of complete isolation, proper doors! Something I think most Americans would like given the state of most bathroom doors here! Though I admit I'm not sold on the Porta-Potty presentation, though it does have promising attributes.. not the easiest on the eyes.

So if pooping and peeing is not gender specific, why should bathrooms be? Sure, gendered bathrooms can still exist for those who prefer, but I don't think it should be the default.

Just have one poopy pit, problem partially solved. No one needs to admit their gender to use the poopy pit.

  • True, I hope my comment didn't come across as me shutting you down, I was intending to add not subtract.

    Sorry about that.

  • 47 hours isn't so bad. I drove San Fran CA to Charlotte NC once and it took 69 hours with stops for sleep included.

But, your core point is still valid, I've kinda always wondered that too. I guess the other replyee explained it, freight trains get priority.

To compare a train ride I took once, I took a train from Charlotte NC to Detroit MI and that took 24 hours. The drive is 10 hours.

My takeaway, maybe we should build dedicated rails for hauling people.. wait, the auto industry doesn't want us to have that and lobbies expressly against it? Fuckers. Back to reality, all US politicians are owned by corporations and oppose train infrastructure expansion, and yes, I recognize the main opposition is conservatives. But on this topic quite a few liberals are probably opposing it also, I actually don't know and am speaking from generic observations.

Nonetheless, corporate lobbying is the root cause. Aka legalized corruption.

The reason I highlighted conservatives is because they oppose absolutely anything that costs money (which is everything), and they spend all their efforts banning books/lifestyles/scientific-phrases and well, science and medical advice from science and medicine experts. That's all banned too. But not guns, because "bans don't work," (except in every other civilized first world nation in existence, but wait that doesn't feel good to think about) so conservatives ignore that.

So you know, I guess it's not my fault that I assume Republicans are the root cause to this problem too, since they are the root cause behind most Americans' ills.

For all you "both sides bad" people, great, so introduce ranked choice voting in your state. That would disrupt both conservative and liberal life-long politicians. If you won't do that, when you say "both sides bad" you are actually saying "Republicans aren't that bad".

Ranked choice voting, bitches. Do that shit. Read about how it works before you go ask the people in power and media-shills about it, spoiler, they fucking hate the idea because it would dethrone quite a few of them.

(Shoots AR15 into the air, the traditional American greeting and salutation for departure).

    Have a nice day.

  • R word is an offensive phrase.

You gotta proxy it by saying "letter after Q word".

  • Truth. Still. Prison.

    At least public flogging.

  • Hahaha. I love it. Fuck closed source hardware gatekeepers.

Nice to see them groveling for performance.

    Kneel!!

C'mon, I can joke. Such a cathartic paragraph to read. Intractable cunts.

  • Narwhal, bacon, midnight, dick butt, le, doggo.

The real question, when we enter ^ this era of Lemmy, how many years of prison is appropriate for the above genre of jokes?

  • As US citizens, we should praise the Lord for the privilege of giving our time to our employers. I think that workers who accept pay are greedy, and if you do manage to receive pay, after donating it to your landlord, the rest should go to the church. Child rape trials and relocating sex offenders can get quite expensive. Help a local church! /s

  • You can infer from their previous comment that it is because it makes them happier.

Trucking business sucks and is massively exploitative, well, I guess that makes it similar to every other business.

  • Rupert Murdoch can't die fast enough for this reason. But likely another shit-weasel will just step in and replace him.

You hear that Randy? You hear that? (What Mister Lahey?) Shit weasels, shit weasels all the way down.

I can't think of another entity that has done more harm to the world than the Murdoch media empire. Generations to come will reap what that family has sewn in divisiveness and tribal hate/fear/greed.

I hope they pay. No dollar amount will suffice. A different type of payment.

  • Its always, no no this is for X, not Y.

    (a few years pass)

They accepted X, now there is precedent, let's take Y.

This is the start, not the finish.

Fight this or it will make its way to your interests.

    My $0.02.

  • Edit : My wild speculation was wrong, not unexpected and happily welcomed. Post left unedited below.

Let me preface this by saying I'm wildly speculating to try to find underlying reason to their statement. But I've made the mistake before of applying logic to try to figure out an illogical being, it usually leads nowhere. That said, here we go.

I always suspect that the "too many humans" take is the closest opinion someone can express without coming out as a supporter of genocide. In my opinion, and since they won't elaborate, they are attempting to be edgy.

Thus why they never elaborate, they're just trying to guide us to the "logical solution" of genocide? It does seem dumb but the internet is full of enough stupid racists for this not to be unexpected.

In regards to a solution, populations drop voluntarily when a certain standard of living is reached. I doubt the people expressing this would advocate taking care of the poor to speed up the process of natural population decline.

    Wild speculation concluded.

  • I'm glad to hear it, i think I may try it out on my spare laptop and see for myself too.
