  • You're hired!

  • Munch's The Scream with emacs artist-mode

  • I was expecting more comments like yours and less describing situations that I'd naively assumed only happened in pornographic media

  • Was asked to clean up jizz of the walls (plural!) of a TKMaxx (TJMaxx) changing room with a stack of blue roll. I was supposed to be working loss prevention at the changing rooms that day so pretty certain the weirdo was thinking about me cleaning it up as he cracked one off. Potentially had a couple rounds judging by the amount of jizz on the walls.

Should have quit on the spot but there were children/families in the changing room and felt like I needed to try to prevent a larger incident if a family barged into the poorly sealed changing room, or even just got bothered by the smell. I did quit that day though. One of my co-workers had a go at me on my way out the door for being a primadonna because she'd "had to clean up shit before". Retail is hell.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting your new moderator of the antiwork sub

  • My friend worked at a Sky call centre in the UK where their entire job was to delay someone who'd phoned to cancel. He once convinced a legally blind lady to keep her satellite tv subscription and the call was replayed to other members of staff as an exemplary piece of work. He didn't last long there.

  • Focusing on the big 4 offices of state. Kemi's Shadow Cabinet:

    • Priti Patel: Shadow Foreign Sec
    • Chris Philp: Shadow Home Sec
    • Mel Stride: Shadow Chancellor

    Rishi's Cabinet:

    • David Cameron: Foreign Sec
    • James Cleverly: Home Sec
    • Jeremy Hunt: Chancellor

There are like 30 ministerial roles though so not sure how similar the junior ministers are.

  • Emacs has functionality called tramp which can handle saving to ftp (amongst other things)

  • To play devil's advocate, part of being in opposition is to give parties a chance to reassess what's important to them. Kemi wasn't particularly senior when they were in government and the shadow cabinet has changed from the actual cabinet when they were in power.

Political parties are extremely top driven in the UK with the PM or LOTO having an outsized role in shaping what their offering will be in the next manifesto. Being in power also changes decision making like Tories can now be all in favour of online privacy and civil liberties in a way they couldn't when they were running the home office. Similar shift in priority for Starmer being emboldened to further purge the left of his party more blatantly than when they were in opposition.

  • I was so confused when I saw #JonathanRossIsAMurderer trending on mastodon the other day

  • I was 15 years old (jk I was about 5)

  • Rockstar had a similar scandal firing unionising workers last year

  • Seems like an efficient way to take the fun out of watching sports to me personally. The whole sportsbook thing is less of a novelty to people like me from the UK though; we've already been through the cycle of the adverts becoming so obnoxious that there is a consumer backlash and regulation ends up getting tightened again.

  • I believe it's when bakers make patterns on top of pastries and cakes with icing

  • Not sure why people are downvoting you. It's a simple enough task that the risk of LLM hallucination is very low.

Suspect it is just from people who dislike AI but in my experience using it as a replacement search engine for some stackoverflow type questions is about the only useful thing I've gotten it to do.

    • Neon Genesis Evangelion
    • Cowboy Bebop
    • Kill La Kill
    • Hunter X Hunter
    • Serial Experiments Lain
  • Neighbour took me out on a dog walk on a hill and to stop me stepping on rabbit shit she told me that was where baby rabbits came from. Took a few years to untangle that in my brain!

  • Less of a problem on lemmy but mastodon has a lot of accounts posting anime pictures that are not necessarily illegal but are weird - like children dressed as animals or with animal features.

Not sure if there's anything you can do about people just being weird but often other users will boost a different post by the account, which will be a meme or something, so the accounts end up on your timeline. If you click through to see more similar memes you get greeted with a profile where they are clearly not a teen but are pretending to be one or similar...

idk I suppose my complaint is that the culture is overly tolerant of creepy behaviour.
