  • Not that surprising since on reddit the proton-team account stated the same positions as Andy did on Twitter before deleting after they saw the message wasn't taken well. They didn't bother to distance it as opinions of Andy, but took the stance of it being an organizational opinion.

    And you can see reddit user responses bringing up Slater's background but being ignored. Kind of funny the medium article writes an essay and does so much research into showing how Andy isn't racist, but doesn't do any research on Slater.

    Apple Tim Cook showed that ideology doesn't matter when monetary greed is involved, so falling to look how not intolerant Yen just comes off as a diversion from the criticism regarding him choosing to praise Slater by omitting details of her history that didn't fit the pro consumer narrative for the little guy.

  • I found it odd back then that they shifted to strategy of saying how could he support Trump if Yen isnt sexist and isnt homophobic when uproar was Slater's anti consumer past being ignored. And they kept shifting away from Slater career criticism like some form of gaslighting and ignoring it. And it worked on some people, since they forgot about the positive endorsement of Trump's pick while omitting Slater's murky past because look how not racist Yen is.

    But, Tim Cook groveling before Trump showed that people who's goal is to make more money will sell themselves out to try and get within the inner circle if it is more financially advantageous to do so regardless of their personal ideologies. Money and power rules them. It's fortunate for Proton the sucking up didn't get them any further, since who knows if Yen would be giving golden gifts at Trump's dinners if he'd been invited into the fold. "Dear Mr. President you are the most privacy respecting leader in the world and here is a golden statue as a gift."

  • Seeing as how they've taken over and their influence is spreading seems it's been very effective.

    There is something to learn from them when it comes to their ability to win over the masses with their approach and no middleground tactics. They don't seem to get swept up into trying to appeal to both sides.

    Right wingers seem way far ahead of the curve when it comes to media outreach.

  • Apple is pushing AI even for their Mac lineup. Apple is a US company and had to be forced to allow Sideloading in select regions. Jumping to another US company seems like a lateral move.

    Moving to dumb phones or custom ROMs is the best alternative available.

  • I think working out and eating healthy is a good trend and blood work is happy for it, and don't need some super crazy work out plan to look better.

    But the whole cosmetic surgeries and steroids which aren't needed to be healthy is definitely overboard for the regular person who aren't making living off their looks or athletic performance is overboard.

  • I got apple devices, but it is more a take or leave it type situation where I wouldn't feel like I'm missing out if I didn't have them. Its just one of those nice options, but not irreplaceable tech to me.

  • It also probably helps that it is easy to ignore Apple and there might not be a feeling of missing out for those who don't care for the Apple ecosystem. As big as Apple is it is kind of niche in the sense that a Windows or Linux user can just ignore its existence and not feel affected.

    But, when it comes to Windows there's lot of mainstream software, games, and even hardware compatibility that is affected by Windows dominance. Stuff like wine and proton being needed and not getting the same video card driver support leads to more resentment Windows actually having offerings people who tend to complain want.

  • It is a stereotype but Apple diehards seem to go along with whatever Apple pushes, and people who don't like them don't use them anyways. Meanwhile Windows and Linux seems to have more people who are nitpicky about what they use, so group that tends to complain is going to be complaining more loudly about the OS they use would be my guess.
