  • There is one difference between housing and stocks. When housing market crashes, you are still left with a house to live in. When stock crashes... well, nothing.

  • Who knows though.

  • It is easy to check on the reliability of that journal as a lay person

Is it, really? How does one check if a journal is one of those rigorous ones, without being an expert in the field? Some journals change from legit to predatory.

  • Yeah, it seems all talk and no real substance.

  • Maybe, just maybe, the bubble started bursting now.

  • It exerts too much Control to the users.

    I'll see myself out

  • Yeah, that might be it. Thanks! Time to investigate other options, like getting a full-time job.

  • I see, maybe that's it. But I've also seen many who aren't rich and get by through scholarships instead. I believe I am one of them - I earn a little bit of money as I pursue my doctorate, although it's not much. I guess this is impossible in US, maybe..

I do not understand what this has to do with greed.

  • Smh, what did I expect.

  • Lmao. "Entitled" just because I want to finish my PhD? Also people should be doing more with worse conditions just because there are some others being like that? What a corporate slave mindset. Bet you got way more greed, wanting others to suffer like that.

  • I submitted it to one of the major conferences in my area, and am currently waiting for the result. I gotta visit conferences more, thanks!

  • Wow, what a way to be rude. So I should rightfully in despair because there are someone better than me who is still struggling? What?

  • Ah I forgot to say, thanks for thoughtful reply! Although it does not help me much, it should have been helpful to people in US.

  • Thing is, I suck at developing connections. Also people seem to dislike me by default..

  • Thanks a lot, I should talk to my advisor. That said, they are very busy; I took a mistake of going to a busy advisor..

  • Yeah so it is not bad, but not also great. I expect it to be accepted in a conference, dunno where it would go though. Thanks!

  • Ah, yeah so I do not live in US, so

    • I cannot teach in uni without PhD.
    • I cannot teach in highschool and such, it takes way more effort to get into that scene in my country.
  • Well, I am in applied math rather than pure math.

I can go do programming, but that scene seems just as hostile now.
