  • I've been playing Phoenix Point recently. It's basically like the X-Com reboot, but weapons actually have ballistics instead of there just being a chance to hit a target (like the original X-Com). Randomness still plays in with weapon spread, but neither the player nor the enemy can get shot in through ridiculous BS angles. I've been liking it so far.

  • I don't even think it has to be in millions. By the time one hits a 6 figure yearly wage/salary, their mind already gets warped more into caring about "me and mine" than actually helping people, especially if they don't come from a poor background and thus never had to struggle. I reckon the actual line is a few 10k less than 6 figures, but 6 figures is a nice round place to put the line.

    I could only see this maybe being false in ludicrously high cost of living areas.

  • It's a Mao quote. The source I was reading cited it as coming from Strategic Questions in China’s Revolutionary War, though the copy on marxists.org appears to be a different translation and the exact phrase doesn't appear. The closest I could find in the linked source is "Nothing in the world is difficult for one who sets his mind to it."

    The context the source was using it in wasn't idealist, but the idealism is definitely what appealed to me enough to post it here. Out of its original context it sounds like, as we say here in the US, "mind over matter".

The individualist, solipsistic, treatlerite mindset she proposes as an alternative is extremely harmful. People are supposed to live and die for the collective, not for their own individual selves.
