  • Thanks for that. Was that posted to a newsletter? I'm surprised I missed it if it was posted on piefed.au. IIRC, I joined there around September.

  • The weekend that piefed.social had its... issues (the first time), I checked piefed.au on the Friday to see if the problem was summit. It worked fine. When I returned on the Sunday, it was gone.

  • They probably saw how well going hard against asylum seekers worked for the Australian Labor Party. Without that as a platform, the conservative parties basically had little to offer voters, and subsequently imploded.

  • The activitypub plugin for WordPress is great. I've used it on my blog for more than a year. All my reactions and comments come from the Fediverse now.

  • Except all those times where you learnt how to do something when you set it up years ago, and haven't touched it since because it just bloody works. Then when you need to upgrade to a new machine you have to learn it all again.

Been using Linux for thirty years and it still happens.

  • Wait around for two hours in case it comes back.

  • Guns don't kill people. Cats do.

  • It has all of them, but it's bare bones and doesn't scale well. The instance where I have an account regularly falls over - sometimes for months at a time. Most of my friends there haven't returned.

I don't feel it's currently a viable Facebook alternative, and it would need monumental amounts of work for it to become one.

  • No, we had the Poms until WW2, now we have the yanks. Anyone that believes we've ever truly 'stood alone' is clearly deluded. Perhaps we might one day, but that would take a different sort of leadership. Likely the sort that most of us would consider objectionable.

  • It's activitypub, but can be configured to also use AT as well.

  • Most illegal immigrants are poms that have overstayed their working-holiday visa.

  • Although I feel season 5 (the last season) of Babylon 5 was a trainwreck, I would have liked to have seen something that was fully funded and supported by the network. Instead we got Crusade and The Legend of the Rangers, and then the TV movies.

Weep for Warners, Na'toth. Weep for us all.

  • I do indeed have the mind of an artist. I keep it in a small jar under my bed.

  • Unfortunately, mostly broken at the moment. Normally it's great, though.

  • I have used Friendica. It might appear useful as a base for a fedi-linkedIn, but not in its current state. It does the basics, but only barely, and it's not particularly stable. The instance I'm on falls over regularly (for days or weeks), despite the admin's best efforts. It feels like a new project, instead of something that has been under development since 2010.

  • If you're using WordPress, the activitypub plugin does this also. It's good to have choices.

  • Sadly, the first thing the defending lawyers will point out is where were the parents in all this? Why was he able to turn off the parental controls, and why didn't the parents notice?

  • If I removed ActivityPub from my blog, I'd get no readership whatsoever. It's not like search works anymore.

  • Filters already mute keywords and can be set for specific periods of time. AFAIK*, subscribed blocklists were rejected because they could be used to target minority members by bad actors. How are custom feeds different from lists?

    • From threads on the subject months ago, so that might have changed.
