  • I'd get a super cheap second phone then just for banking and leave it turned off most of the time.

  • Phones have this neat thing called a web browser that you can use to access your bank and if you can't use a web browser to access it then honestly you should switch banks because that just shows that your bank doesn't give a fuck about you and that you are the product because they have proprietary shitware on your phone

  • Use a web browser. If your bank doesn't allow you to use a web browser, switch fucking banks.

  • I desperately want to use mobile Linux on my phone, but I am legally blind, and so at an absolute minimum I require system magnification. Having both system magnification and a screen reader would be better, but at the absolute minimum I must have magnification before I can even consider the idea of going to a system like this. But I desperately want to, so please, somebody.

  • Damn, I can't find anybody who actually can give me an answer as to what kind of accessibility features these systems have. And I can't use any of them until I can at least get some answer so that I know what I'm working with. At the absolute minimum, I must have system magnification on the device.

  • If you don't hold it, you don't own it. Unless you take the DVD from them, you can't remove their access to the movie stored on that disc.

  • And every tool humanity creates can be used for both good and evil.

You can use a hammer to build a house or you can use a hammer to kill somebody by hitting them over the head.

A car can get you distances that would have taken a horse and buggy days, or it can be used to hurt people in crowds.

Nuclear energy can be used to destroy a city or light hundreds of millions of homes for decades or centuries.

There is no tool that is inherently good or inherently evil. The person wielding the tool is what determines how it is used.

  • I don't have a spygle account, but I consider the idea of logging in to be a pretty serious downside. The fact that it even supports logging into such a service makes me less likely to use it.

  • Naughs in NewPipe where both of those have been standard for years.

  • They have slightly lower density right now, but there is work to increase the density, and it could very well get up to about 210wh/kg which would put it directly on par with current lithium ion batteries. So it could replace the low end of the EV market without any significant change except for a reduction in price by a lot.

  • I believe Post Market OS is actually beginning to support some currently in support devices. It was definitely made to support devices that were no longer in support, but I believe that may be changing over time.

You say you use sailfish OS, and I have a question for you. What kind of accessibility does it have? Because I use a combination of screen reader and system magnification all the time on Android, and so I really need at least magnification to be able to use the system.

  • You can already kind of use them now, although they could still use some work from what I can tell.

  • I really hope this all gives the Linux phone developer community the kick in the ass it needs to really get going. If Google insists on doing this, you might have a mass amount of switchers in just a few months and we will be looking for the apps we are used to. So absolutely, let's try to get Google to back down from this. But let's also get our app developers to work on ports for things like Postmarket OS.

  • I'm going to have to read this, because my knee jerk reaction answer is that it depends on what type of wash you want to give the car. If you want to give the car an actual wash at the car wash, you're going to have to drive it. But if you're wanting to wash it at home, then it doesn't matter how far the car wash is away. Because you can just walk out your front door and grab your water hose. and soap and shit.
