  • I strongly recommend something screen off, either podcasts or audiobooks. I listen to an audiobook every night before bed with my wife with a sleep timer set.

If that's too stimulating for your brain, choose a less cerebral book.

  • I had a similar problem, fwiw I have an ecobee. I simply added an intermediary step an hour or two before the final temperature so the heatpump has a chance to go. There is also a threshold for auxiliary heat lock in the settings on the thermostat itself that doesn't show up in the app which I increased which helped a lot.

  • Mine is rated for -25, which where i live in southern Ontario has been reached 3 times in 50 years (wind chill doesn't count remember). And while I haven't had a heat pump for one of those days I don't think it would be a problem, after all the efficiency doesn't just drop to 0, it just doesn't work as well for that one day and my house could stay a safe level of warm for a day or 2 without heat anyway.

Despite this I am required to have an auxiliary heat source, so I get charged 30 dollars a month just for a gas hook up I haven't used.

A lot of heat pumps have normal electrical heating as a backup as well.

  • If something breaks I have to spend a beat to fight the urge to hide the evidence and then hide myself.

  • I agree with sentiment, but as stated that's just eugenics with extra steps. By controlling the cost, availability and/or accessibility of the course, you control who can have children. Also how are you going to enforce this policy, forced abortions?

Better imo to make childrearing a part of the school curriculum with a highly encouraged refresher course later on. That achieves the same end without risking peoples liberties.

  • Comparing Python to c++ seems disingenuous, Python is not a replacement for c++, it should be compared to bash, PHP or maybe R. Don't get mad that a hammer is not a good screwdriver.

  • I have converted to a heat pump and induction stove. I legally need auxiliary power to heat my home, so I have to pay 30 dollars a month just for the gas hookup.

  • I dont know what your thinking, pouring chai tea on an uninflammable atm machine is literally the worst thing ever, even on accident.

  • So can normal maps, there were so many stories of people driving off cliffs or into lakes when gps was new. Always be aware of your surroundings.

  • I think the question is ill defined. The answer is entirely dependent on the definitions you use and i don't think answering the question really leads to a meaningfully different view of the world or has any real intellectual consequences.

  • And they all (above 3Kg) pee on average for 21 seconds.

  • This sort of elitism really hurts adoption

  • I have a body pillow and/or my partner for that, clothes aren't thick enough.

  • I'm a 20, l and I have dogs that occasionally wake up with the urgent need to go outside, I just keep a pair of sweat pants and an overcoat hanging in the wall. I can get into it without breaking stride.

  • I think this is essentially a response to the trade war with America. Threat of sanctions from America is why so many countries support isreal, but now with the trade war there's not much to lose.

  • the coordinates are in Australia, which NA people often joke is upsidedown.

  • The leader of the opposition is entitled to a house to stay in. PP isn't technically the leader any more because the opposition leader (unlike the PM) must hold a seat. Until he wins the by election he shouldn't really be living there.
