  • I didn't get my first cell phone until I was in college in like 2002 or 3. Miss that flip phone. In high school no one had a phone and maybe a hand full of kids had pagers.

  • ok as a naive Canadian can I just ask...What's the point of saying "Epstein list" over and over?

I know he's on it, you know he's on it, everyone knows he's on it so if/when it does come to light that he is INFACT on it and it's proven in black and white...then what? he gets removed from office? someone starts an impeachment process that goes no where? cause all the other motions for impeachment have worked out well. Or he and his administration and the rest of the GOP simply ignore it and continue on their fascist path.

I just don't understand it. Based on what I've seen and read nothing would happen.

  • I'm in my 40s and now I realize that my Parents would have likely been arrested several times over if I were a kid today. Hell I Imagine most of us would be in the same boat.

I mean on weekends or during the summer I was told to get out of the house, be with friends, have fun and told to be home either for dinner or by the time the street lights came on and if I wasn't going to be home in time then to find a phone and call my parents and let them know. Hell I could be like miles/Kilometers from home at any given moment. I could be in a friends house and their parents offered me dinner.

I was like any kid, I got up to no good. I stole candy sometimes. I once opened a Captain Planet action figure in a store cause I wanted the power ring that was inside. I got in trouble at school cause one time during recess me and my friends just decided to start cussing at the top of our lungs.

I'd hate to be a kid today. hell, I'd hate to be a parent today.

  • I think when you first get into Linux it's a valid thing. you want to find the distro that you're most comfortable with.

When I first started using linux I tried them all and eventually just settled on Arch because it felt right to me. That being said I don't knock anyone who uses whatever. A good friend of mine online uses Slackware and he loves it, it works for him. There's no "wrong" distro, it's whatever works for you. you have to initially hop around though to find that though.

Also distro hopping is great when it comes to helping people, especially new linux users. I've made many friends within the community because for a solid year I just hopped all over the place and tried to learn it all.

  • /me a 42 year old that uses Arch

    I take that personally.

/me adjusts my knee high socks.

  • I used to live in Tucson Arizona which for a time was like the call center capital of the US. there were SO MANY call centers there that they would hire literally anyone with a pulse. if you quit one you could quite literally go back a few months later and get your job back because the turn over was just so massive. And they all had paid like 2 week training.

So you can see where this is going and how exploitable it was. This was the early 00's and me and a friend of mine being broke 20 year olds decided to do just that. We wanted to get paid to literally just sit there, not answer phones, nothing. just get paid for doing nothing. So we'd both go to one call center, get hired, do the 2 week training, get paid, quit, go to the next call center, repeat. Eventually once you made the first round of all the call centers you could literally just start the chain over again because by that point enough time had passed that the first call center would hire you again. We did this for like a solid year. Just get paid to sit there and listen to a dude talk.

The only reason we stopped doing it was because it was SO boring.

  • When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

  • They don't. But the wealthy, the corporations, etc, they do.

  • I personally don't get it. He's successful. It wasn't handed to him like some nepo baby. He worked hard and did great jobs to achieve where he's at.

I honestly don't get it. You can have someone like Taylor Swift who releases an album every couple weeks and if you speak ill of her then you've essentially become Satan. So it's ok for one person to be constantly in the publics face but it's not ok for another person?

  • Bingo. If you routinely use LLM's/AI you've recently seen it first hand. ALL of them have become noticeably worse over the past few months. Even if simply using it as a basic tool, it's worse. Claude for all the praise it receives has also gotten worse. I've noticed it starting to forget context or constantly contradicting itself. even Claude Code.

The release of GPT5 is proof in the pudding that a wall has been hit and the bubble is bursting. There's nothing left to train on and all the LLM's have been consuming each others waste as a result. I've talked about it on here several times already due to my work but companies are also seeing this. They're scrambling to undo the fuck up of using AI to build their stuff, None of what they used it to build scales. None of it. And you go on Linkedin and see all the techbros desperately trying to hype the mounds of shit that remain.

I don't know what's next for AI but this current generation of it is dying. It didn't work.

  • The problem is there's no counter-leadership to the regime. Not even a grass roots level. People in general need someone to rally behind, even a small focused group, and on the left that doesn't exist. The closest you might possibly have to have is the California Governor. Bernie isn't it, AOC isn't it.

The other problem is the American people have been conditioned to essentially "not have time nor the resources, financially" for it. Healthcare tied to employment, Right to work states, Cost of living, etc, etc, etc. This of course is by design. It's hard for a nation to revolt if it means their family won't be eating next week. It's hard for the average person to justify it. Carry on and hope it works out in the end.

And it's clearly evident right now that Republicans won't play by the rules. Law, they've decided, doesn't apply to them and they can simply ignore it. So you need a Leader who is willing to play the same game and currently no one on the Democrat side is willing to do that. They insist on continuing to use a system they believe in which is now painfully evident to be broken.

The US people need a Leader who is strong enough to rally millions behind them and is also willing to throw down.

  • The building that has my workspace has this great food court/library/work hybrid area where people who work remotely tend to go. a sort of third space. It has fantastic free wifi so it makes sense why people would use it and sit there all day working.

Everyday there's this older guy who sits there talking to his phone about some of the most random subjects ever. I originally thought he was just talking to a friend that seemed to have extensive knowledge on everything until one day I walked by him and glanced to see that he was talking to chatgpt. Everyday. Just random conversations. Even had a name for it, "Ryan".

Now? he's frustrated. He doesn't know what happened to Ryan and keeps screaming at his phone to "bring Ryan back!" or since GPT5 can't maintain a conversation anymore it's "You're not Ryan!". Granted the guy wasn't mentally all there to begin with but now it's spiraling. Got to the point yesterday he was yelling so loudly at his phone security had to tell him to leave.

  • ok I must be losing my mind then. I could have sworn it required something like this: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/31qtoUfewyL.jpg I remember as a kid going to a babages and picking up a copy and a guy was like "does your computer have a keyboard card? otherwise it wont' work" and then I swore it was also stated on the box....but christ now I might have just been dreaming it.

  • ah so that post I saw the other day saying "begun the kernel wars have" makes senses. someone posted the fact they couldn't play BF6 cause Valorant was installed.

  • Plus it's great if the server is made specifically for a map you really love. Like TFC/TF2 with say 24/7 2fort. I love me some 2fort and yeah I will play it for hours on end, it's comfy.

  • and with the fact you have to verify in the UK....nah I'm glad I deleted my bsky account.

  • I've seen this episode before. something, something, WinXP.

  • Remember when Star Wars Shadows of the Empire came out on PC and apparently, it's been awhile so maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but you needed a special card for your keyboard to play it?
