Because everybody is so preoccupied with fighting for their own well being they don’t want to step ahead of the line and get beaten. It’s either all of us at once or none at all, and we choose the second option.
You know why? Because each of us deep down is as selfish and greedy as the capitalists, we care for nothing but ourselves and even if we toppled the „elites” of today we would replace them with different psychopaths again. There never was and never will be freedom in human societies.
