  • This is also why its generally better to turn your wifi signal power down to a low or middle power as long as all your devices can still connect.

Less range, less overlap, less competition for shared bandwidth between different access points. The more people that do it, the better the wifi gets for everyone.

  • Buckets has a similar vibe to ynab, but less demanding in that regard. You can do it if you want, but it can be a pretty basic envelope system too.

  • This is her expression when he turns into a clean faced man with a shaved chest:

That aint the the look of someone happy with the change.

  • Those were all Andys statements, made at the same time.

I can see why Andy thought that having Gail Slater onboard was a sign that they would take antitrust at least somewhat seriously. Not Lena Khan serious, but still. Well, shes been ousted by her own party, and its utterly clear that big tech can just pay the GOP to make antitrust go away.

At this point, none of Andy's praise of the GOP has turned out to be true. I'd like to see if he's adjusted his viewpoint now that things are clearer, or if he has double downed on the "pay to play" GOP still somehow being there for the little guy like Proton.

  • How do you figure that? These are Andys own words:

“10 years ago, Republicans were the party of big business and Dems stood for the little guys, but today the tables have completely turned.”

The GOP just ousted their one good antitrust hire in their first year. Big tech keeps giving Trump cash payments for pet projects in a clear example of corruption to prevent any action agaisnt their monopolies.

I dont see how the above makes the GOP the party of the "little guys" like Andy asserted. How have "the tables turned" if they ousted the only person they had working against big tech while taking bribes from big tech?

  • So to answer my question, No, Andy has not followed up on his praise of the GOP as the party that will break up big tech now that they have ousted their one good antitrust hire. its blatently clear that Trump can be bribed with inagurations/ballrooms/etc to take no action at all against tech. His big talk was always a push for cash, nothing more. Turns out you can literally kiss Trumps ring, and that will be the end of any enforcement action.

It's okay that Andy was wrong. We can all learn from our mistakes. I would just like him to own it to restore trust in Protons leadership.

  • Judges can go past fines. You can be jailed on contempt charges if they like, and its basically up to them when they release you.

The escalation is that the next time this lawyer enters the courthouse, they are jailed until the fine is paid. Kinda hard to dodge contempt charges when you constantly have to go to court to do your job.

  • As I recall, they didnt follow WARN at all, just firing thousands people left and right, and only after the fact when they started getting sued did they say "well your severance worked out to 60 days, so that counts."

I do remember that one of the sale conditions was that all previous employee perks were retained, which twitter had very good severance, like 1 months/pay per year at the company. Some of the lawsuits were about that not being honored.

  • Just a heads up mate, you used a different username in you story than your current one. Might want to change it to prevent linking identities.

  • WARN only kicks in at a 100 people or more laid off, and it only gives you 60 days notice, not any extra pay or benefits.

Its basically the least they can do, and the 100 person threshold gives lots of orgs plently of room to skirt it by doing small, and steady layoffs instead.

It also has to be enforced. Musk laid off thousands of people at Twitter and didnt follow WARN, just paid them 60 days instead. He was sued by individual people, but didnt suffer any penalty for breaking the law itself.

  • Especially when one of the apps payment models is a monthly subscription. I hope most people have cancelled by now, but subscriptions tend to be sticky, which is partly why buisnesses like them so much.

  • Unfortunantly, the number 1 reason most safty things dont happen is cost. Red paint on a curb is way, way cheaper than a concrete bump out or other physical barrrier, and it occasionaly generates ticket revenue. Win win from a city budget perspective.

Its why bike lanes are often nice cheap white lines, or in exotic US locals pretending to care, slighlty less cheap green paint paths.

  • Social skills arent always about being as literal as possible, they can also be about navigating social situations with as little friction as needed to inform others and achieve your goals.

Saying "no" to your boss and having them accept it would be ideal, but is generally unrealistic. Saying "I dont have time" or "im booked out" achieves the same goal that flat truth will not by making it look like you will negotiate when you wont.

  • It was some wacky jurisdiction thing between the city, the market stewards that run the whole market, and individual car brained shop owners. The city has basically wanted to end customers entering for decades, but the market corporation was always resistant, probably due to dumb vendors.

Turns out wow, like literally every other shopping district that opens up space for bikes and people and reduces cars, foot traffic and sales are way up. This experiment, which has been tested 10s of thousands of times and always repeats the same positive results, did it again. The car brained vendors making more money still don't like it, but whatever.

  • I think this a gotcha aimed at the GOP, as the congresswoman is a shitty Florida republican.

Just a few days back, Ilhan Omar replied back to Trump insulting her and somalia with the following:

"The leader of the Pedophile Protection Party is trying to deflect attention from his name being all over the Epstein files. At least in Somalia they execute pedophiles not elect them."

The right wing flipped its shit as usual and tried to say she was threatening the presidents life. I think Elijah is just turning that dumb bullshit around here.

  • Hmm, my client Summit doesnt pull the AI tag over, but im seeing it on the web browser. I recall the AI feature being discussed, but thought it was mainly for self tagging. Nice to see mods/admins able to use it too.

  • Well thats disheartening. Thanks for the tips.
