Bio et AOP : Pseudo, votre utilisateur français préféré !

  • Well Cervus elaphus (I don't know much about it, I'm figuring things out and latin name using wikipédia as we speak along) is bigger than Chevreuil (Capreolus capreolus) but I believe it is smaller than Alces and Rangifer tarandus. I say I believe because this is all based on vague feeling I have from reading encylopedia and watching documentary as a child. I have no real experience on this.

  • I may have made some translation imprecision here. I know that the Chevreuil can bark. And I find videos of it and of Biche barking on YouTube but the cerf the big heavy deer are not featured barking. So I don't know...

  • I've checked. The origin is orfraie (who break bones) but it got altered on the model of effrayer (to scare) because of the superstition. It was nail down on the door of bell towers :-(

  • "Effraie" means "scared" indeed but I'm not sure the name of the bird come from there.

  • It looks like a painting. How pretty.

  • I search I search but almost every interesting french show I found that would have export in the US are from 2000/2007. The older one I remember are all Japanese (Olive et Tom, Jeanne et Serge, Princesse Sarah, Goldorak, Ken le Survivant, Cat's eyes, ...)

  • that’s above the technical level for us here

You're right. I was overcomplicating things because I found a english wikipedia page for barn owls but not the same in french wikipédia. Yet, all barn owl mention in this page have a french wikipédia page where are named the "effraie of something". So "la chouette effraie" is a good global translation for the broad barn of category.

  • In french, the deer and animals alike also make a sound called a bark, although it is not the most commun one. Is it also the same in english?

  • I typed the word 4 times unable to recognised the right spelling. Thank you (_)

  • Your welcome. It is not much but I'm happy to do a bit.

  • Sure!

  • I don't know how you manage to keep posting outside of the superbowl. I'm not even able to keep checking the other post because I'm so taken by the competition!

  • I have an issue translating this name for my family. Are these eastern barn owls (Tyto javanica), american barn owls (Tyto furcata), western barn owls (Tyto alba) or any of the three?

  • Now that I look at it with attention, it has eyebrows!

  • American opossum

  • Australian possum

  • Sugar glider

  • This smocky eyes look (_)

  • Funny it is also said to bark in French. It is called Ninoxe aboyeuse (barking ninoxe)
