  • Reading your reaction to everyone else's comments, did you read the part where I said credits and an overture? What's got you so wound up over this? You'll notice I never said 10 minutes like that first guy, but most movies have way longer opening titles than 30 seconds, which is what you said...

  • Plenty movies from the 40s and 50s ran all the credits at the beginning along with an overture. IMO the overture is one of the best parts of older movies, which often had amazing, sweeping soundtracks

  • I assume the goal is to neuter ICE and maintain funding for things like FEMA and the TSA, right? What would shutting down DHS right now do that couldn't be accomplished over the next two weeks? If DHS shut down right now, ICE still operates, because they already have $72 billion allotted from the "BBB."

That Republicans agree to fully fund the government without fully funding DHS is a serious win for Democrats. Agreeing to this current deal is a no-brainer and is not "folding." I'll reserve my judgment for how things end up after the next two weeks

  • All you have to do is mildly flatter Trump and then he's your best friend

  • It should be law that all public officials' tax returns be released publicly

  • Wasn't there a Black Mirror episode about this

  • The Sandy Hook parents were private individuals who had no desire to be public, and who were then relentlessly attacked by the right with bald-faced, abhorrent lies about their children.

Erika Kirk stepped into the spotlight the moment Charlie Kirk died and started giving speeches and hosting events and fundraisers. And while the left thinks it's really weird how she seems really unperturbed and happy throughout all of this, the Sandy Hook-style attacks are again coming from the right in the form of fucking Candace Owens.

  • Amazon sounds like an awful place to work

  • I also mulled this over, as I work with people experiencing homelessness, and decided I'm still going to work, but will make sure not to spend any money that day. Also my son will still go to school

  • It's definitely a more conservative part of the Austin-San Antonio corridor

  • The gays. Rawr

  • A lot of "investigations" going on. Call me when they successfully bring charges

  • Uh yes that is the point

  • The NRA under Doug Hamlin is way better than the NRA under Wayne LaPierre. Hamlin has made a concerted effort to tone down the conservative political rhetoric and bring more women and minorities into the organization. LaPierre was the NRA CEO from '91-'24 (most of my life, and I'm over 40) and was a total Republican asshole.

Letitia James brought down LaPierre, she won his civil fraud trial in 2024 and he was ordered to repay the NRA almost $5 million in misspent funds.

  • You're right about this. We do still have two more years, who knows what will be happening then. The last year has felt like a lifetime.

The World Cup starts in June, though....

  • Prosecutors said Hughes had been drinking and watching the Kansas City Chiefs defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl at the bar that night, along with Brewer. After leaving the bar, Hughes urinated on the rear wall of the building.

Lloyd Preston Brewer III, who owns the building but not the bar, confronted Hughes and then shot him once in the torso, killing him. He later claimed that he had acted in self-defense, telling police he feared for his life when he saw a group of people gathering in the parking lot and noticed Hughes urinating on the wall.

“He came at me in a threatening manner and appeared he was reaching for something on his side,” Brewer told police, according to The Miami Herald. Brewer said he warned Hughes before drawing his weapon.

But prosecutors said security footage and eyewitness testimony directly contradicted that account.

“There is no justifiable claim to self-defense because the kid was never armed and never advanced on the shooter, the shooter advanced on him,” Assistant Monroe County State Attorney Joseph Mansfield said.

  • Speaking as an American, I hope the rest of the world boycotts all events taking place here until we get our shit together

  • It likely has debris in the charging port, often lint from living in pockets or purses. Get a bright flashlight and take a look. Be careful not to damage the connections if you see something and try to remove it

  • The governor of Lombardy region, Attilio Fontana, sought to calm the situation, suggesting that ICE agents would be deployed in Italy to protect US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Well now hold on a second. ICE is going to be protecting Vance and Rubio, and ICE is also utterly incompetent, so maybe let's see how this plays out
