A lot of the forests outside of the parks/wilderness areas are just tree farms anyway. Massive monoculture "forests" that only exist to be clear-cut.

    The only reason the US has any old growth forests at all is people scrambling to protect them from the capitalists over the last 150 years or so and/or the land being nearly inaccessible to heavy machinery.

    The worst part is the logging industry is horribly inefficient and designed to maximize short term profits. They'd be better off long-term using more sustainable approaches, but of course that won't happen under capitalism.

I use them to write code sometimes and it's wild how often it is like "you're totally right!" And I am, in fact, wrong. I rarely turn to an LLM for something I don't already know the answer to because of this shit.

  • For sure, which is why I said it would be unlikely and not impossible. Maybe it's more likely than I'm thinking, but idk I just grew up in a town not unlike Cleveland and not that far from it. It might not even be a majority white population, which is true in a lot of small southern "cities" (they aren't large cities, populations of ~15k)

    And I mean Candace Owens exists so anything is possible

    I guess the county coroner could be covering up a lynching, but he's also a black man and it seems unlikely given the family will just have an independent autopsy done. Surely the family will make a statement if they saw the body and there were obvious signs of an attack.

  • I wonder if this will actually matter. A lot of companies are already paying Microsoft for copilot and whatever other nonsense they can come up with. I'm sure smaller companies will opt for cheaper alternatives, but the enterprise apps will almost certainly just keep paying Microsoft like they always have. Barely any of them use Linux and it doesn't even have the "China bad" optics.
