  • I was overpraised when I was young then accused of purposefully sabotaging myself as I got into my teenage years, and people still think that (and worse) into my adulthood. To this day I have a bit of an insecure desire to be the smartest person in the room, I'll run myself into the ground getting to that point too and pretend that I've not.

I never did my homework, never studied, missed class pretty often too because I faked being sick to get away from bullies. got all As and Bs, did great on my standardized tests. I was the coolest shit ever. Got put into Talented And Gifted classes. Got a lot of "proud of yous" from family members.

Got my first C in 7th grade, did worse in 8th grade, pretty much had straight Ds all through high school.

I never had to study, so I never learned how to study. I asked a lot of questions in class when I was younger but when I got into middleschool and highschool teachers were less receptive of me asking a question they just got done explaining. Had a few teachers who berated me for doing poorly, a few who accused me of "just trying to coast through life". This alongside a not super great homelife led to me missing even more school than I had before. I don't really know how I was allowed to graduate tbh. I easily missed 2/5 of the school year every year of highschool.

When I was 18 my whole family kind of did this intervention style thing where with no mincing of words I was told to "pull my head out of my ass" by all the people who I thought had been in my corner and who I thought supported me. Still haven't figured out what exactly people wanted from me. Still bar none the most hurtful experience of my life and that's saying something considering my father tried to shoot me. (one of those situations where a person has set the bar so low its just expected behavior, I'm sure someone here will understand)

Into adulthood I struggle with work too. It doesn't feel like anything changed from highschool it just got worse. It's particularly upsetting. Maybe it isn't conveyed over text very well but typing this up made me cry. It's my life ya know? And I've seen it circle the toilet bowl for a really long time. Do I have a disability? Idk. I'm probably pretty fucking traumatized though considering I felt the need to share all this on a meme post.

TLDR Once a Loser Always A Loser

  • I mean, yeah, seems pretty American to me.

  • Nono, we believe that nobody should be having sex with minors as an adult. Very, very, different from your framing.

16 & 16? Fine 18 & 30? Weird, I'm gonna judge you, but totally legal. 14 & 24? Fucking disgusting, a crime, and you should never see the light of day for the rest of your life.

The most outspoken critics of large age gaps and people wanting to fuck teenage kids, that I've met, have been BDSM kinksters. Quite literally the opposite of puritanical white knights. It makes sense too, because power imbalance, consent, boundaries, are all heavily discussed in those groups.

  • Officer, this one right here.

  • I wonder why 35-44 has so many unsure responses

  • Well I say it with a little bit of yeehaw to it

    BORE-jwah-zee

And i've heard burr-jwah-zee and boo-jwa-zee as well.

  • Have you considered that All Cats Are Beautiful?

  • Tangentially related question

Do you fucking say the r or not? I always say it with the r, but I've heard some people in my reading groups say it without the r.

The answer to this question will not make me say it differently, I just want to know if I'm being quirky or not.

  • Yaroslavsky's "Religion in the USSR" is a very interesting work to me (he was the leader/founder of the Militant Atheist League), also check out the Little Lenin Library compilation titled "Lenin On Religion". Both are short if people are interested in reading them.

  • I mean, was it a case of being cultish or was it a case of not having the time to be a fully active party member?

There is a difference, and there is no shame in not having that level of commitment. You can always participate in the various mass/front orgs.

  • If you are an American, join the insert party that I'm a member of

PSL gets a lot of love on lemmy, that's fine, lot of PSL members here evidently. You can just as easily join any of the other parties that will reflect your personal line better or worse. All the big rallys and protests I see are run by a wide combination of parties and groups (although I'll admit PSL and FRSO are usually the largest by attendance).

Always remember you're joining to do work, it's not just a cool club you join so you can go to a protest once a year and say "look at me I'm a communist now" (you can do that outside the party too!). You can join PLP, you can join the Avakianites, you can join one of the 100s of trot orgs, any of em, just don't join a party you know nothing about and be disappointed when you disagree on something. Study the party program. See what kinda positions the party has held in recent history. Be ready to dedicate substantial regular amounts of time to this group. Different parties will have you spending your time differently, but they all will appreciate a member keeping themselves busy.

  • the difference between 60 to 120 is noticeable to most people, the difference between 120 and 240 is not always obvious, and I've met a small number of people who are not able to consistently tell the difference between 30 and 60

  • 100%

What is even the point of having mass organs and the like if you allow just anybody into the party anyway? What purpose do those mass organs serve when the party itself has become the mass organ?

  • I will say, we should try and determine the reasons why revisionism was allowed to run rampant in the USSR and potentially what could have been done to prevent it. The joke is not lost on me that my initial comment could apply to just about any communist tendency that doesn't accept every single deviation thrown at it just for the sake of changing tactics.

  • Turkey isn't my favorite, but it's usually priced very reasonably compared to other meats so I'll get it over other stuff once in a while.

  • We are certainly seeing what revisionist tactics lead to.

  • I actually disagree with most MLs on the war, but you're deliberately not listening to what is trying to be explained to you.

You aren't being told "Russia isn't gonna stop and that's a good thing" you're being told "Russia isn't gonna stop because it doesn't make any sense for them to as they've almost gotten what they wanted."

  • Who "really can't work" in your opinion?

I don't work. Every few months I'll really put in the effort and throw the applications in but nobody wants to hire me at this point. I'll get demotivated and accept my couch surfing lifestyle again. The times I have had a job, they've not lasted long either.

You ask my friends if I'm disabled and you'll get mixed answers. I personally don't see myself as such, but I am very defiant and not particularly skilled.

Many people would say I've "chosen" to be unemployed (I don't see it that way, but many people do)

Do I deserve to have my needs met? Healthcare, food, water, shelter?
